Auckland

Active adventures

Enjoy a sunset kayak to Rangitoto Island

Auckland’s youngest volcano (now dormant) and the natural icon of the city skyline. The views from the summit are simply breath-taking and make the short hike well worth the climb.

Cruise the waterfront to Mission Bay

Follow a safe, separated pathway along the waterfront on foot or an e-bike, and enjoy an ice-cream or fish and chips on the beach. Aotearoa NZ's most popular bicycle ride.

Snorkelling at Goat Island

Swim with thousands of fish in pristine waters in this spectacular marine reserve located just 45 mins north of the city.

Nature experiences

Hike or bike the Hunua Ranges

Home to magnificent native Kauri trees and the endangered Kōkako (Aotearoa NZ native bird), hiking in this sub-tropical rainforest is a truly magical experience. Mountain biking is also a popular activity here.

Waiheke Island

Waiheke is a haven of beautiful vineyards, olive groves and beaches, all just a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. The white sandy beaches at Oneroa, Palm Beach and Onetangi slope gently down into the Hauraki Gulf and are perfect for swimming, kayaking, or having a picnic.

Discover the ‘wild west’

Black sand beaches and pounding surf make for an invigorating day out on Auckland’s wild west coast. The world famous Muriwai Gannet Colony is always worth a visit, with breeding pairs arriving in August for nesting. Surf lessons are also available.
