Jonathan Ariyaratnam

Cardiologist And Electrophysiologist, Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders


Dr Jonathan Ariyaratnam is an academic cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist based in Adelaide. His research focuses on atrial fibrillation and heart failure, particularly HFpEF pathophysiology and novel therapeutic strategies, integrating mechanistic insights with clinical trials to improve outcomes for patients with complex arrhythmias and heart failure.

Dr Ngai-Yin Chan is the Deputy Hospital Chief Executive (Clinical Services) of Princess Margaret Hospital and the Director (Cardiology) in Kowloon West Cluster of Hong Kong Hospital Authority.  He is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Hong Kong College of Cardiology.  He was Past President of Hong Kong College of Cardiology.

Chi Keong Ching

Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing, CVM ACP


Dr Ching graduated from Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) and obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and the Certificate of Specialist Accreditation (Cardiology). He went on to complete his clinical fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Cleveland Clinic, USA. He was inducted as a Fellow of the ASEAN Society of Cardiology, Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore), and Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society, USA. He is the Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing, Director of Quality Management, Chief Data and Digital Officer and Vice-Chair (Clinical Service) of the CVM ACP. He holds Associate Professor appointment at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and lectures in Yong Loo Lin and Lee Kong Chian Schools of Medicine. Dr Ching successfully organized the 15th Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society conference 2022, during the COVID pandemic. Currently he is the Second Secretary General, APHRS, Asst Hon Secretary of Singapore Heart Foundation and the Immediate Past President, Heart Rhythm Association Singapore, He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze), Singapore National Day Award in 2022 and the COVID Resilience Medal in 2023.



Jong-Il Choi

Director of Cardiology, Korea University Hospital


Dr Jong-Il Choi, MD, PhD, MHS, MSc is the Tenured Full Professor of Medicine at Korea University, Seoul, South Korea. He is serving as Director of Cardiology and Section Head of Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology, Korea University Hospital. He is currently working as Director of International Exchange & Affairs of Korea Heart Rhythm Society (former Secretary General & Scientific Committee Chair) & Director of Research of Korea Society of Cardiology (former Director of Policy), and Editor-in-Chief of Korean Journal of Internal Medicine. He is the Secretary-General of the APHRS 2026 organizing committee. 

He completed 2 year-basic research period (2013.3-2015.2) as a visiting scholar at Duke University (Dr. Geoffrey Pitt Lab, Ion Channel Research Unit, Cardiovascular Research Center), Durham, USA. He graduated from the Duke-National Institute of Health (NIH) Clinical Research Training Program at Duke University Medical School (Master of Health Science in Clinical Research), Durham, USA. He also received Master degree of Executive MSc in Health Economics, Outcomes and Management in Cardiovascular Sciences, Department of Health Policy, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), London, UK. 

Professor Choi has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles including many expert consensus statements with international society collaboration, and he has been organizing numerous clinical trials including large-scale, multicenter RCTs and nationwide registries as principal investigator. In particular, he has contributed to understanding the mechanism & treatment of atrial fibrillation, inherited arrhythmias predisposing to sudden cardiac death, and cardiovascular genetics & digital health. 



Ian Crozier

Cardiologist, Canterbury District Health Board Christchurch Hospital


Ian Crozier, M.D., M.B., Ch.B. is a Cardiologist in the department of Cardiology of the Canterbury District Health Board Christchurch Hospital.  He has worked as a full-time public hospital Cardiologist since 1988.  He has sub-specialised in clinic cardiac electrophysiology, pacing and implantation and follow-up of defibrillators.   His research involved a broad spectrum of areas within cardiology.    His current research projects include projects cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac implantable devices, with a focus into novel technologies that represent the first human experience in these technologies.



Dicky Hanafy

Director for Education, Research, and Human Resources, National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita


Dr Dicky Hanafy is a distinguished cardiologist and the current Director for Education, Research, and Human Resources at the National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita. After earning his MD from Universitas Indonesia and receiving his ECFMG certificate in the USA, he completed extensive residency and fellowship training in Germany at the Universitätsklinikum Münster and Herz und Gefäss Klinik, specializing in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

With a PhD from Universitas Indonesia and a research background from Veterans General Hospital-Taipei, Dr. Hanafy currently serves as a Consultant for Cardiac Electrophysiology and Interventional Cardiology. A former President of the Indonesian Heart Rhythm Society (InaHRS), he also leads the Subspecialty Education program as Program Director at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia.



Wei Hua

Professor of Cardiology, Fuwai Hospital


Wei Hua is a Professor of Cardiology, Cardiac Arrhythmia Center, Fuwai Hospital & Cardiovascular Institute, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He completed his MD at Shanghai Medical University in 1985 and then PhD at Graduate School of Peking Union Medical College. He joined Fuwai Hospital in 1985. He was trained in Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology in Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia, from 1994 - 1996. His main work is on “Clinical cardiac pacing and electrophysiology, cardiac arrhythmias service”. He is now Chairman of Chinese Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (CSPE) and Vice President of APHRS. He is a Fellow of Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS), and Fellow of European Society of Cardiology (FESC).



Young-Hoon Kim

Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Center, Korea University


Dr. Kim is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Center at Korea University, Seoul, Korea.

He completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine at Korea University Medical Center and research fellowship training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles.

He has participated in many professional societies’ scientific-program development and consensus documents. He served as the president of Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society(APHRS), Korean Heart Rhythm Society (KHRS), and CEO of Korea University Medicine.

His principal research interests are catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, and mapping of underlying mechanisms of various arrhythmias. Dr. Kim published more than SCI 500 papers and 8 books, including the recent “Design Futuristic Hospital” in 2023.



Chu-Pak Lau

Honorary Clinical Professor, Department of Medicine, Queen Mary Hospital, The University of Hong Kong


Professor Chu-Pak Lau is Honorary Clinical Professor, Department of Medicine, Queen Mary Hospital, The University of Hong Kong. He graduated in The University of Hong Kong and received cardiology training in St. George's Hospital Medical School, Department of Cardiological Sciences, London, U.K. His main research interest is on cardiac arrhythmias and implantable device therapy. He has published over 500 international papers, 28 chapters in cardiology textbooks on cardiac arrhythmias. He edited an international textbook on cardiac arrhythmia entitled ”Clinical Cardiac Pacing, Defibrillation and Resynchronization Therapy”. He contributed to international guidelines on device therapy for arrhythmias. Professor Lau is Past Presidents of Hong Kong College of Cardiology, World Society of Arrhythmia, and Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society.

Andrew Martin

Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologis, Auckland City Hospital


Dr Andrew Martin is a consultant cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist at Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand, where he is Clinical Lead of the Heart Rhythm Service. His clinical interests include atrial fibrillation ablation, electrophysiology in adults with congenital heart disease, pulsed field and cryoballoon ablation, complex device therapy, and lead extraction. Dr Martin is actively involved in clinical research, registry development, and national guideline activity.



Kumar Narayanan

Head of Cardiac Electrophysiology Unit, Ramathibodi Hospital


Dr Kumar Narayanan is an experienced cardiologist and electrophysiologist with in-depth experience spanning more than a decade in heart rhythm disorders. He has trained in world renowned institutes, including the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, India as well as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, USA. He is a keen academician and researcher and has authored around 130 peer reviewed scientific papers in top international journals including Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, JACC, European Heart Journal, Lancet Public Health, JAMA Cardiology, Heart Rhythm etc. and four book chapters. He is the Deputy Chair of the Lancet Commission on Sudden Cardiac Death and Associate Editor of the Indian Pacing and Electrophysiology Journal. He is a visiting Professor at the Paris Cardiovascular Research Centre, Co-Director of their Global Health Research Unit and the Chair of the Fellowship Committee of the Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society (APHRS). His areas of research interest include sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), ICD/CRT utilization, atrial fibrillation epidemiology and rheumatic heart disease (RHD). He is passionate about teaching and is involved in several courses every year for physicians, residents and cardiology fellows.



Tachapong Ngarmukos

Director of Cardiovascular Metabolic Center, Ramathibodi Hospital


Doctor Tachapong Ngarmukos is currently a Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist for the Faculty of Medicine and Director of Cardiovascular Metabolic Center at the Ramathibodi Hospital, a part of Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. He qualified from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand in 1991, and specialises in Cardiac Electrophysiology. After he graduated from Chulalongkorn University, he started training in the field of Internal Medicine Residency and completed his Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1999. He also completed his Electrophysiology and Cardiac Pacing Fellowship at University of Massachusetts and was appointed as Clinical Instructor at University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare System in 2000.  Doctor Tachapong was certified by the American Board of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology in 2001. He previously served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare System in 2001; Electrophysiologist at Pacific Rim Electrophysiology Research Institute Inglewood, California, USA in 2002.  Doctor Tachapong was elected as President of Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society in 2020 - 2021 and Scientific Chairman of the heart Association of Thailand under the royal patronage of H.M. the King from 2018 to 2020.

Andreas Pflaumer

Consultant Cardiologist and the Clinical Leader of Invasive Electrophysiolog, Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourney


Andreas Pflaumer is a Consultant Cardiologist and the Clinical Leader of Invasive Electrophysiology (EP) at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, Professor at the University of Melbourne and Honorary Fellow at the MCRI. He is the Chair of the Paediatrics and Congenital Heart Committee at the APHRS since 2021. Before 2009 he worked as Consultant at the Department for Paediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Disease in the German Heart Centre Munich (Technische Universität München). His clinical and scientific work is focused on integration of 3D anatomic information into mapping systems, CRT therapy and the prevention of Sudden Death in the Young.



Wataru Shimizu

Vice President, New Tokyo Hospital


Professor Wataru Shimizu currently serves as Vice President of New Tokyo Hospital in Chiba, Japan. Shimizu’s primary research interest has been in cardiac arrhythmias, particularly inherited arrhythmia syndromes and sudden cardiac death. As a primary or co-primary investigator, Shimizu has conducted many clinical and basic research on inherited arrhythmia, such as congenital long QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome. Shimizu has also contributed to many national and international guidelines and expert consensus statements on inherited arrhythmia syndromes and pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Shimizu was awarded First Prize of YIA of Basic Research at 1997 NASPE (HRS), YIA of Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pathology at 1998 ACC, and 33rd Sato Award, Japan Heart Foundation at 2008 JCS. Shimizu is now Editor-in-Chief of Internal Medicine (2023-) and Deputy Editor of JACC Asia (2021-). Shimizu is an immediate past president of Japanese Heart Rhythm Society (JHRS), and of Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society (APHRS).



Kyoko Soejima

Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Kyorin University


Dr. Soejima is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Kyorin University. She specializes in the management of cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death prevention, including catheter ablation of complex arrhythmias and device therapy.



Martin Stiles

Director of Electrophysiology, Waikato Hospital


Martin Stiles is Director of Electrophysiology at Waikato Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University of Auckland. He is the Chair of the NZ Division of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ). Martin chairs the CSANZ Scientific Committee and is Treasurer of the Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society.  He has chaired International Expert Consensus Documents on the Investigation of Cardiac Arrest and on ICD Programming.



Wee Siong Teo

Dr Teo Wee Siong graduated with MBBS (NUS) in 1982. Obtained Master of Medicine (Int Medicine, NUS) and MRCP (UK) in 1987. Trained in Cardiology at the National Heart Centre in Singapore from 1987 and went for advanced training in Pacing and Cardiac Electrophysiology under Dr George Klein in University Hospital, London, Ontario, Canada from Nov 1989 - Dec 1990. Obtained FRCP (Edin), FACC (USA) in 1998. FHRS (Fellow Heart Rhythm Society) in 2006. Performed the first catheter ablation in SE Asia in Oct 1991 and implanted the first implantable cardioverter defibrillator in Singapore in 1992 when he was in the National Heart Centre, Singapore and was the Director of the Electrophysiology and Pacing Service till 2000. In private practice since 2000 as a Consultant Cardiologist & Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Mt Elizabeth Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital. Presently also Visiting Senior Consultant Cardiologist and Senior Advisor Electrophysiology and Pacemaker Service at the Department of Cardiology, National Heart Centre, Singapore. 

Important other roles include: Chairman, National Resuscitation Council 1998-2007; Organizing Chairman, 1st Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Session, 27-29 November 2008; President of APHRS Jan 2016-Dec 2016; Founding president of Heart Rhythm Association Singapore in 2021Have delivered more than 379 lectures, and published more than 137 articles in local, regional and internationally.



Hung-Fat Tse

Chairperson of the Department of Medicine, University of Hong Kong


Professor Hung-Fat Tse is Chairperson of the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. He is also Chief of the Cardiology Division, Honorary Consultant and Chief of Service of the Department of Medicine at Queen Mary Hospital.

Professor Tse received his medical degree from the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. He completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in the Department of Medicine, Queen Mary Hospital, University of Hong Kong, and his cardiac-electrophysiology training fellowship at the University of Michigan, USA.

Professor Tse is an international expert in cardiac pacing and electrophysiology, and cardiovascular regenerative medicine. He has significantly contributed to the understanding of the mechanisms as well as development of novel therapies for treatment of heart rhythm disorder. In addition, Professor Tse is at the forefront of applying stem cells in cardiovascular regenerative medicine. His research center and basic laboratory together with the Sun Chieh Yeh Cardiovascular Research and Training Laboratory (for large animal research) are dedicated to the training and development of novel device and biological therapies for cardiovascular diseases. Prof. Tse has published over 520 original scientific reports in international scientific journals, including New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Medicine, Lancet, Cell Stem Cell, Circulation, Blood, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Archives of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Medicine, European Heart Journal and Stem Cell.
