Biography

Laura Snowden is a New Zealand diabetes advocate and IDF Young Leaders in Diabetes graduate, mentor and Western Pacific Regional Coordinator. She has been actively involved in diabetes advocacy and youth leadership in Aotearoa New Zealand, including through Diabetes New Zealand’s youth initiatives. Laura is passionate about empowering young people living with diabetes to develop their voices, advocate for change and meaningfully engage with health systems. She is particularly committed to creating opportunities for young people to move from being participants in diabetes advocacy to becoming leaders in shaping its future.

Advocacy in Japan: What we see, learn, and achieve over time

Biography

Noriko Kodani is an endocrinologist at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Japan Institute for Health Security. She earned a Master of Science degree from Osaka University in 1993 and subsequently worked as a researcher at Takeda Pharmaceutical Company. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after giving birth to her daughter in 1998. This diagnosis motivated her to pursue a career in clinical medicine and enrolled at Keio University School of Medicine. She received her MD in 2009 and completed her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2020, based on her research on pancreatic islet function. After moving to her current position in 2020, she is engaged in clinical practice, clinical research, and advocacy for people with diabetes.

Closing T1D healthcare gaps in South-East Asia

Biography

With over 20 years of experience across the healthcare and NGO sectors, Fiona works to advance equitable and sustainable access to diabetes care for underserved communities in low‑ and middle‑income countries (LMICs). Her work focuses on strengthening health systems, building multi‑stakeholder partnerships, and supporting the integration of Type 1 Diabetes into national health policies, including policy reform and budget prioritisation. She is currently the Regional Manager for Action4Diabetes, leading programmes across Southeast Asia to improve access to essential diabetes supplies, education, and health system strengthening initiatives. Prior to this role, she held regional and global positions at Novo Nordisk, working in access, advocacy, and public‑private partnerships to expand diabetes care in resource‑limited settings

Biography

Isabella Magee is a Diabetes Australia Ambassador, International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Young Leader, communications specialist, and Nutrition and Dietetics student. Living with type 1 diabetes for more than 17 years, she combines her lived experience with expertise in health communication to advance diabetes awareness, education, and advocacy. As an IDF Young Leader, she leads 'Sweet Talk: Speak to Be Heard', a global initiative that empowers the diabetes community to advocate for meaningful change in their everyday lives. Isabella also co-hosts the Diabetes Australia podcast 'Life on the Level' and is passionate about amplifying lived experience to improve diabetes care, outcomes, and equity worldwide.
