While Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) is becoming the standard of care, an overwhelming volume of data and alarms can lead to reactive self-management and alarm fatigue. This symposium explores the paradigm shift from reactive to proactive diabetes care through the use of predictive CGM technology.
The session introduces the Accu-Chek SmartGuide CGM solution, highlighting its technical performance and clinical evidence. Attendees will discover how innovative features like Low Glucose Predict, Glucose Predict, and Night Low Predict can help users anticipate glycemic events before they occur. With a special focus on nighttime management, the program will examine how predictive alerts can reduce the likelihood of nocturnal hypoglycemia, decrease daily alarms, and ultimately improve sleep health and reduce the mental burden for people living with diabetes. The symposium concludes with a powerful firsthand patient perspective on the real-world impact of predictive CGM.

Biography
Dr Chow is an Associate Clinical Professor and an
External Affairs Strategic Director (Phase 1 Clinical Trial
Centre) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Dr Chow’s areas of research include the use of CGM
technologies and glucose clamps in different patient
populations. Dr Chow also has an interest in novel drugs
and personalised therapeutics in diabetes and
prediabetes.

Predict the Night, Change the Day: The Power of Predictive CGM
Biography
Full Professor of Diabetes Technology and leads the Diabetes
Technology Research Unit at the Medical University of Graz
and Deputy Head of the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic. Prof.
Mader is a Board member and Secretary of the Austrian
Diabetes Society, executive board member of the EASD and
chair of EASD’s Training and Education Committee.
Prof. Mader’s research focuses on diabetes technology
(insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring, automated
insulin delivery system, diabetes management in the hospital
and decision support systems); she has authored
>190 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has received
several national and international awards.
Ms Cheryl Steele

Diabetes Doesn't Sleep: From Unmet Needs to Predictive Support
Biography
Cheryl is a registered nurse with postgraduate qualifications in
Midwifery, Health Counselling and Diabetes Education.
She is the manager of Diabetes Education Services at Western
Health, Melbourne, Australia. Her primary interests in diabetes
education are insulin pumps, CGM systems and diabetes in
pregnancy.
Cheryl has co-authored papers in peer reviewed journals on T1D and
gestational diabetes. As well as her clinical role, Cheryl has a strong
focus on health professional education for nurses, allied health,
medical practitioners and students.
Cheryl is a member of the clinical advisory committee for Diabetes
Victoria. Cheryl lives with T1D, which she manages with a YpsoPump
and CAM APS FX after swapping from her DIY loop system.
