Karin's research focusses on identification and translation of novel targets and treatments in diabetic complications.

Horng-Yih Ou, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Taiwan. He is a board-certified endocrinologist with clinical and research expertise in diabetes, obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic disorders. His research focuses on the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes and related metabolic complications. Dr. Ou has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in diabetes education and regional professional societies.

Keizo Kanasaki, M.D., Ph.D., graduated from the Shiga University of Medical Science in 1996 and completed his doctorate in 2003. From 2005 to 2010, he undertook postdoctoral training and served as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and BIDMC in the Kalluri Laboratory. After returning to Japan and serving at Kanazawa Medical University, he became Professor of the First Department of Internal Medicine at Shimane University in 2019. He also serves as a Medical School Council member and Deputy Director of the University Hospital. He received the Japan Diabetes Society Lilly Award in 2016.

Associate Professor Michael Woodward is Head of Dementia Research and a senior clinician at the Wound Management Clinic at Austin Health in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He is a past President and is honoured to be a Fellow of the Australian Wound Management Association, now Wounds Australia, on which he served as an inaugural Board Member. He leads several research trials investigating new therapies for chronic wounds. Associate Professor Woodward’s publication record includes 160 peer reviewed research papers, numerous book chapters and over 500 scholarly addresses. He was joint editor of Wound Practice and Research, the journal of Wounds Australia, for 16 years. He is also a member of the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Reference Committee, which approves drugs and dressings for Australian Veterans, and chairs their Advisory Wound Care Committee. He is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine and is a previous chair of their Education and Training Subcommittee. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Association of Gerontology, having previously been President of their Victorian Division. He Chairs the Accreditation Subcommittee of the Royal Australasian College of Physician, responsible for accrediting training sites and programs for physician trainees across Australia. On Australia Day 2016 Michael was honoured to receive Membership of the Order of Australia for his work in geriatric medicine and as a researcher and author.

Mitsuru Ohsugi, MD Chief, Division of Diabetes; Director, Diabetes Information Center National Center for Global Health and Medicine / JIHS, Tokyo, Japan Dr. Ohsugi graduated from the University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine and completed training and research at the U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, the University of Hawaii, and the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Lipid Research at Washington University in St. Louis. He subsequently served at the University of Tokyo Hospital before assuming his current positions. His clinical and research interests encompass diabetes, endocrine disorders, and obesity, including the development of novel therapies and public health communication. He leads J-DREAMS, a nationwide Japanese diabetes clinical database.

Dr Angela Sheu is a Staff Specialist Endocrinologist at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at UNSW and a Research Officer at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. Her research interests are the intersection of bone and metabolic health - how bone health is affected in people with diabetes and obesity, and the optimal management of people at risk for both bone and metabolic disease.
