Dr Jashelle Caga-Meller is Deputy Editor of The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific. She holds a master’s degree and completed clinical training in Health Psychology. Awarded an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship, she received her PhD (Medicine) from the University of Sydney, where her research examined behavioural and psychological symptoms in neurodegenerative diseases. Prior to joining The Lancet Group, her clinical and postdoctoral work focused on diagnosing and managing neuropsychiatric symptoms in motor neurone disease and frontotemporal dementia. Her interests include biopsychosocial determinants of health, particularly health equity and improving clinical care for people with chronic health conditions.

Professor Christopher (Chris) Nolan is a clinician-scientist working in the field of diabetes, including diabetes in pregnancy. He is Professor of Endocrinology at the Australian National University and a Senior Staff Specialist in Diabetes and Endocrinology at The Canberra Hospital. Under his leadership as Director of Diabetes Services (2011-2018), the ACT Health Diabetes Service was recognised as a National Centre of Excellence by the National Association of Diabetes Centres. His research activities traverse basic science, clinical science and public health. A few of his key discoveries include the feto-placental glucose steal phenomenon, the glycerolipid fatty acid cycle in islet beta-cells, major pre-analytical issues with laboratory measurement of glucose impacting gestational diabetes (GDM) diagnosis, and the benefits of early diagnosis and treatment of GDM in at risk women. Current projects include the investigation of insulin hypersecretion and how to reverse it in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes, the utility of the Objective FieldAnalyszer for diabetic eye disease, and the development of a novel breath ketone monitor. He is currently a Board Member of the Australian Diabetes Society, Chair of the National Association of Diabetes Centres Steering Committee, and Co-Chair of the Program Organizing Committee for the IDF-WPR/ ADC/ Metabolic Diseases 2026 Congress.

Alicia Jenkins is adult endocrinologist and researcher. Her interests include the prediction and prevention of diabetes complications, lipids, and technology use in diabetes care. She is the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Chair (2025-27), on various IDF committees and President of the Diabetes NGO Insulin For Life.

Dr. Lu Zhou is a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Public Health, Fudan University. She specializes in environmental epidemiology, with a focus on the health impacts of climate change and air pollution. Her research employs advanced exposure assessment and statistical modeling to evaluate population-level risks. Dr. Zhou has published over ten peer-reviewed papers as first author in journals including Lancet Planetary Health and Eco‑Environment & Health. Her work provides critical evidence for environmental health policy and climate adaptation strategies.

Margaret McGill AM is an Associate Professor with the The University of Sydney Faculty of Medicine and Health and Associate Director of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Diabetes Centre, Sydney. Marg has a very broad range of experience in developing innovative clinical services for diabetes and medical and health professional education and is recognised as a global leader in these areas. Marg was Senior Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). She was Chair of the IDF Consultative Section on Diabetes Education (DECS) for 9 years and developed its global education strategy during this time. She developed the concept of the IDF Centres of Excellence. Marg was on the Clinical Council of ISPAD and developed the first Science School for Health Professionals in 2004, a program that is still conducted today. She won the ISPAD Lesdredet Prize for her global contribution to children. Among many current volunteer appointments for diabetes, she is currently on the Health Professional Advisory Council to Diabetes Australia. She was the first female and first nurse to become a Life Member of the Australian Diabetes Society. She was named in the 2011 Australia Day Honours List with the award of Order of Australia (AM) for her contribution to diabetes nationally and overseas. In 2024 Marg was bestowed the honour from the IDF of Honorary Fellow for her immense contribution to diabetes, globally

Pete Lazzarini is a podiatrist and Associate Professor of Diabetes Foot Disease at Queensland University of Technology and The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. He holds an Australian NHMRC Investigator Fellowship, and his research focuses on quantifying disease burdens, identifying key risk factors and developing novel treatments for people with diabetes foot disease. Pete has authored over 130 peer-reviewed research papers in the field, is Chair of the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot Offloading Guidelines, Past Chair of the Australian Diabetic Foot Guidelines and Founding Chair Diabetes Feet Australia. He has also received numerous awards including the 2023 International Symposium on the Diabetic Foot’s Top Rising Star and Top Study Awards.
