Matt is an endocrinologist and clinician-researcher whose work focuses on understanding and addressing the intergenerational epidemic of diabetes and related conditions among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This work is conducted in partnership with community members, people with lived experience and health services. Matt is Staff Specialist and Clinical Lead for Remote Services within the Endocrinology Department at Royal Darwin Hospital and Senior Research Fellow at Menzies School of Health Research. He currently serves as President of the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society and is heavily involved in guideline development and advocacy for people and communities affected by diabetes.

Dr. V. Mohan is Chairman, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre and Madras Diabetes Research Foundation at Chennai in South India. He oversees a chain of 51 diabetes centres across 8 states of India and has over 700,000 registered persons with diabetes across his centres. His main research interests are epidemiology of diabetes and its complications, monogenic diabetes, type 1 diabetes, fibrocalculous pancreatic diabetes, precision diabetes and nutrition in diabetes. Dr. Mohan has published 1875 papers which includes 1220 original articles. His research has attracted over 252,000 citations and has a ‘h index’ of 175. Dr. Mohan has trained a large number of physicians & diabetologists in addition to nurses and educators. He has received several awards for his research.

A/Professor Sweeting leads the Maternal Metabolic Health clinical research program within the WHO Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity Collaborating Centre, Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney and Department of Endocrinology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Her research advancing precision medicine in diabetes in pregnancy has resulted in NHMRC, ADS Skip Martin and Australia-Harvard Fellowships and publications in high impact journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet and Nature Medicine. A/Professor Sweeting’s international leadership in her field includes co-chairing the IDF Early Gestational Diabetes Consensus, leading the GDM working groups for the Precision Medicine Diabetes Initiative and diaTribe International Diabetes Technology in Pregnancy Consensus, as well as her role as an external expert for the WHO clinical guidelines on maternal and perinatal health and non-communicable diseases.

Professor Ronald Ma’s research focuses on the epidemiology and genetics of diabetes and its complications, gestational diabetes, and precision medicine in diabetes. He has published over 500 research articles in international peer-reviewed journals, and has been involved in a large number of clinical trials evaluating new treatments for diabetes and diabetic kidney disease. Dr Ma plays an active role in diabetes advocacy. He has served on expert panels for the World Health Organization, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) Pregnancy and NCD Committee, as well as serving as council member of the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes (AASD). He received the Xiaoren Pan Distinguished Research Award for Epidemiology of Diabetes in Asia from the AASD in 2020. He led the precision prognostic workgroup for the ADA/EASD Precision Medicine in Diabetes Initiative. He is a council member of the Hong Kong College of Physicians. Locally he is working with a local charity, Youth Diabetes Action, to improve access to diabetes technology for young people with diabetes in Hong Kong.

Elizabeth (Liz) Lewis-Hills is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Te Whatu Ora – Waikato Diabetes Service, where she brings both clinical expertise and deep cultural commitment to her mahi (work). Specialising in Diabetes in Pregnancy, Liz is passionate about improving outcomes for wāhine and their whānau, with a particular focus on Māori health equity and culturally responsive care. Liz whakapapa (connects) to Ngāti Whātua, Ngāpuhi, and Thailand, bringing a rich and grounded perspective to her work weaving together clinical knowledge and cultural connection to provide care that is both clinically sound and culturally informed. Her mahi reflects her belief that high-quality, equitable healthcare begins with connection, trust, and meeting people where they are.
