James completed his cardiothoracic surgical training at Green Lane Hospital in 2002, followed by advanced fellowship training in complex mitral valve repair, aortic surgery and thoracic surgery. Since 2005, he has practised cardiothoracic surgery in Wellington, New Zealand, in both the public and private sectors. His clinical interests include complex mitral valve repair, aortic valve repair strategies, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and the integration of emerging technologies into contemporary cardiothoracic practice. He is actively involved in advancing surgical approaches that improve durability, patient outcomes, and recovery following cardiac surgery.
