Dr Lara Hopley
Chief Clinical Digital Modernisation Officer
Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora
Integration of IT services
11:20 AM - 11:40 AMBiography
Dr Lara Hopley is a specialist anaesthetist with firm roots at Waitematā who has spent the past several years working as the first Chief Clinical Informatics Officer for Health New Zealand, Te Whatu Ora. She has extensive experience at getting things done at the interface between digital and clinical care. Her passion is building systems that work well and minimise waste.Digital stablisation and modernisation will only succeed if strong, capable clinical leaders who are digitally aware work hand-in-hand with digital experts to fashion a modern system that works for us, rather than us working for it. We need technology that gives us time to think, that does the job, that makes it easier to do the right thing, and that uses human factors engineering to divert us away from failure. More than simply deploying suitable tools, we need to ensure that processes they are there to support are built well for people, and that everyone is recruited to the cause of continuous quality improvement. Teams that are passionately involved in the whole process well are more likely to ensure that the system flourishes.

Hendrix Health
"Heidi" in Healthcare
11:40 AM - 12:00 PMBiography
Kalolo Haufano is a Co-Founder of Hendrix Health, Heidi's local partner in New Zealand, working to bring trusted AI into healthcare across the motu.
As COO and Head of Customer Success, Kalolo leads the Hendrix team supporting the use of Heidi by now more than 25,000 clinicians across Aotearoa. His team is responsible for onboarding, training, and adoption across a wide range of settings, from primary care and allied health through to hospital and enterprise environments.
Through this work, Kalolo has had the privilege of seeing Heidi used across many different clinical contexts, and has learned an enormous amount from clinicians and the realities of their day to day workflows. He believes the value of any tool lies in how well it fits into real workflows, reducing documentation burden so clinicians can spend more time with patients.
Kalolo is also a strong advocate for AI literacy, which he believes is a human right. He is committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of role or background, has the understanding and confidence to engage with AI safely and meaningfully as it becomes part of everyday healthcare.
