Janoschka van Zyl is a Cardiac Physiologist and Trainee Cardiac Sonographer at Te Whatu Ora Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, New Zealand. She has a strong interest in clinically relevant research that informs and improves cardiovascular diagnostic and follow-up practice. Her work focuses on understanding disease burden and optimising protocols to better align service delivery with patient needs. She is particularly interested in strengthening evidence-based practice, enhancing diagnostic consistency, and supporting equitable access to cardiovascular care. Through clinical audit and translational research, she aims to contribute meaningfully to service development and improved patient outcomes.

Benjamin Herrington is a Clinical Specialty Nurse for cardiology based at Middlemore Hospital, Counties Manukau. Working in a dual role position for outpatient angiogram and cardiac CT where his responsibilities include vetting outpatient angiogram referrals and overseeing appointment arrangements and vetting and triaging cardiac CT referrals. Within his cardiac CT role Benjamin manages the running of inpatient and outpatient lists as well as playing a key role in the AMRAC CTCA pathway aimed at reducing length of stay in hospital for low-risk patients presenting with chest pain.

Dr Jackson Ranapiri is a Junior Registered Medical Officer (PGY2) at Te Whatu Ora Hawkes' Bay. He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Otago in 2024. Dr Ranapiri has a developing interest in cardiology and clinical research. His current research (alongside Dr Libby Curtis) examines the procedural duration, complications, and clinical outcomes associated with left bundle area pacing compared with conventional right ventricular pacing. Through this work, they aims to contribute to the evolving evidence base guiding contemporary cardiac pacing practice and patient care.

Vera H.J. van Hal is a Research Fellow in the Heart Mechanics Group at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2018 and Master’s degree in Medical Engineering in 2020 from the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. She completed her PhD in the Photoacoustics & Ultrasound Laboratory Eindhoven (PULS/e) in 2025, where she worked on multi-transducer ultrasound imaging and elastography of abdominal aortic aneurysms. In the Heart Mechanics Group, she works on developing image analysis and AI techniques in an effort to enhance clinical echocardiography analysis for patients with heart failure.

Melinda has extensive academic, clinical, educational, and research expertise. After completing a Master’s degree at Columbia University, USA, she taught at postgraduate level before returning to NZ. She spent eight years with the University of Auckland Heart Health Cardiovascular Research Group, developing expertise in implementation science. Melinda is currently a Clinical Nurse Specialist Prescriber in Cardiology at Te Toka Tumai and a recipient of a Health Research Council Career Development Grant. In 2023, she led development of the Accelerated Treatment Pathway for treatment of patients with HFrEF, earning CSANZ Nurse Investigator and Innovator Awards (2024) and HRC funding to support national implementation.
