Dr Altman is an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist working at Auckland City Hospital. She has been living in New Zealand for 3 years, prior to which she worked as an Associate Professor and specialist at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Her career interests include cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, advanced cardiac haemodynamics and management of complex cardiomyopathies and myocarditis. She lives with her family in Auckland where she enjoys running, hiking and experimentation in the kitchen.

Sadie currently works over five different GP practices in Christchurch providing specialist heart failure support and optimising heart failure medical management. Sadie is the facilitator for the Heart Failure Special Interest Group, a national heart failure focused education group with over 200 members. Sadie also runs the Living Well with heart failure exercise and support group for health consumers in North Canterbury and supports other heart failure exercise groups around Christchurch.

She is known for her clear, pragmatic approach to complex clinical problems and her focus on translating evidence into everyday practice. Alongside her clinical work, she is involved in education and professional engagement, with a particular interest in improving how risk factors such as dyslipidaemia are understood and managed

Accelerated Treatment Pathway for Patients with HFrEF: National update and development of quality indicators.

Melinda has extensive academic, clinical, educational, and research expertise. After completing a Master’s degree at Columbia University, USA, she taught at postgraduate level before returning to NZ. She spent eight years with the University of Auckland Heart Health Cardiovascular Research Group, developing expertise in implementation science. Melinda is currently a Clinical Nurse Specialist Prescriber in Cardiology at Te Toka Tumai and a recipient of a Health Research Council Career Development Grant. In 2023, she led development of the Accelerated Treatment Pathway for treatment of patients with HFrEF, earning CSANZ Nurse Investigator and Innovator Awards (2024) and HRC funding to support national implementation.
