Biography

Henry Marshall, FRACP PhD, is a senior staff Thoracic Physician at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane and Visiting Medical Officer at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside, Brisbane. His research, at the University of Queensland Thoracic Research Centre, aims to reduce the burden of disease caused by lung cancer by focussing on lung cancer early detection, screening and smoking cessation.

Biography

Catriona Lockett is the Research Officer for the Prevention Education & Research Unit, Research & Education Network, WSLHD. Catriona is passionate about promoting physical activity, healthy eating, and the prevention of e-cigarette use in adolescents. In 2024 she will be commencing a PhD to generate knowledge about the value of school-based interventions using peer-led models to prevent adolescent e-cigarette use.

Biography

Dr Moya Vandeleur is a Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Specialist at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne and the department research lead. Her clinical work involves children with general respiratory and sleep problems. Moya is the deputy convenor for the TSANZ Tobacco & Related Substances SIG and has a special interest in adolescent health and the health effects of vaping.

Biography

A/Prof Cathy Segan (BA Hons, PhD (Psychology), MAPS) is Quit’s Senior Behavioural Scientist. She is a co-author of the Australian National Minimum Quitline Standards. Cathy also co-authors Quitline counselling protocols to tailor for the needs of priority groups including people living with chronic diseases, mental illness, or substance use disorders and for pregnant people as well as for people who are vaping. She is an investigator on numerous translational research trials examining the effectiveness of these counselling protocols in real world contexts. She is also involved in health services research aimed at implementing best practice smoking cessation care.

Biography

Stuart is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician working at Te Whatu Ora Counties-Manukau, New Zealand. He is a former TSANZ NZ Branch President and current Board member. He is the former Medical Director of the Asthma + Respiratory Foundation NZ where he still serves on the Scientific Advisory Board. He has been involved in advocacy trying to keep vaping out of the hands of our youth. He is keen to see a Smokefree Aotearoa NZ and would love to see New Zealanders embrace good lung health.

Biography

Clinical Associate Professor André Schultz is a physician-researcher based at Perth Children’s Hospital and Program Head of Respiratory Health at Telethon Kids Institute. He is a MRFF Investigator and previous NHMRC TRIP Fellow. He is a Chief Investigator for the Centre for Research Excellence in Respiratory Health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children (AusBREATHE), Deputy Chair of the Australian Cystic Fibrosis Data Registry Steering Committee, and President of the Australian Council of Smoking and Health. His research focuses on improving lifelong health trajectories from early childhood, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Biography

Matthew Peters is a son, husband of one, father of five and grandfather of two. He obtained his FRACP in 1988, completed a higher degree and then spent an impoverishing three years in London as a Research Fellow. He is Senior Staff Specialist and Head of Respiratory Medicine at Concord Hospital and Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Macquarie University. He has served TSANZ in a number of roles including as President and also worked for an extended period with Lung Foundation Australia. He has made a particular contribution in the area of Tobacco Control. He became a member of the Order of Australia in 2019 recognising the significant contributions in these areas. Outside Medicine and the love of his family, 2023 will be his 23rd year of coaching an Under 13 Rugby team at St Joseph’s College in Sydney. No Wallaby yet but one Australian Rugby 7s representative!

Biography

Professor Shah is a Community Physician and Director and Founder of the Prevention Education and Research Unit (PERU), Research and Education Network at Westmead Hospital, Sydney. Her career is devoted to education and research-based preventive practices for achieving health equity in culturally and linguistically diverse and disadvantaged communities. Her work in adolescents in schools promotes health and wellbeing through evidence-based programs and builds leadership skills in young people to self-manage and prevent disease. Professor Shah is a current recipient of the Order of Australia Medal, in June 2022 for her work in community health. She is also recipient of the prestigious TSANZ President’s Award, in recognition as “an outstanding respiratory health advocate”. Professor Shah has been on several committees of the TSANZ and the American Thoracic Society. She is currently an executive member of the Blacktown and Hills Doctors’ Associations and the Australian Indian Medical Graduates Association. She has peer reviewed journals including Archives of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, British Medical Journal, European Respiratory Journal, and Medical Journal of Australia.

Specialising in respiratory, smoking cessation and lung health education and promotion, as well as quality systems and clinical governance for almost twenty years Appointed manager of the Lung Health Promotion Centre at the Alfred Hospital in March 2015, Janet manages and presents with world-class health professionals a diverse programme of specialist and general lung health and education seminars and courses. The Lung Health Promotion Centre at The Alfred, unique in Australia is a leading centre for courses related to Smoking Cessation, Asthma, COPD and Spirometry, as well as patient engagement and education methods, motivational interviewing and positive psychology
