After over 60 years of research, vaccines against RSV-related lower respiratory tract disease (LRTD) mark a new era in health care and is a major step towards protecting older adults*. Older adults have higher rates of serious complications with RSV infection,^1-3 partly due to age-related decline in immunity reducing an effective immune response.4-6 This symposium will focus on the burden of RSV and prevention of lower respiratory tract disease caused by RSV in adults aged 60 years and over. ^RSV-associated hospitalisation1,2 and mortality3 rates increase with age. Biography

Cedric “Jamie” Rutland, MD, FCCP, is a triple board-certified Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Internal Medicine physician and owner of Rutland Medical Group, a busy private practice in Newport Beach, CA. Dr. Rutland is also the owner of Medicine Deconstructed Productions, a company that produces medical education for healthcare companies and the general population. He serves as Vice President for the nonprofit organization, AHSM, whose mission is to preserve the integrity of online medical information, and also serves as The Medical Director of Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Rehab at Saddleback Medical Center. He also maintains full privileges at Hoag Hospital Irvine and Newport. In addition, Dr. Rutland is the national spokesperson for the American Lung Association. He served on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic and has become an expert in SARS-CoV-2 and post COVID symptoms. He is a leading medical influencer on social media and an internationally recognized speaker and educator.

Biography

Christine is head of the Respiratory Group at The George Institute for Global Health; Clinical Professor at the University of Sydney; and Professor of Respiratory Medicine at UNSW Sydney. She is a thoracic physician with a clinical and research focus on the management of airways disease. Her area of research interest is the clinical management of airways disease and patient outcomes in response to therapeutic interventions. At The George Institute she leads a research group implementing trials in asthma, COPD in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. She has been active in advocacy and leadership for lung health in Australia over many years, most recently as Chair of the Lung Foundation of Australia.

Biography

Dr Kerry Hancock is a General Practitioner who has had over 38 years experience in clinical practice with most of that time as a principal of a self established practice in the outer southern suburbs of Adelaide. For at least the last two and half decades she has had a special interest in general practice based respiratory medicine and in addition to clinical care she has been actively involved in advocacy, guideline development and dissemination, and research activities. She remains passionate for patients with respiratory and related conditions to access excellent clinical care by all primary care practitioners and to ensure that patients are diagnosed in a timely manner and provided with excellent care to achieve best outcomes for health and wellbeing. Kerry is currently Chair RACGP Respiratory Medicine Specific Interests Group; Chair Lung Foundation Australia (LFA) Primary Care Clinical Council; member LFA Clinical and Research Council and COPD Clinical Advisory Committee; Honorary Fellow Allergy and Lung Health Unit Melbourne School of Population and Global Health The University of Melbourne.
