Brigitte is an accredited clinical physiologist (respiratory) with 31 years’ experience. Brigitte works at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne as Head, Physiology Service, Respiratory Medicine. Brigitte’s areas of interest in the field of respiratory medicine include lung function interpretation (for which she co-authored a book in 2014), laboratory accreditation, quality spirometry in primary care, and oxygen therapy.

Adjunct Associate Professor Joy Lee leads the Asthma and Allergy Unit at the Austin Hospital and consults for Melbourne Allergy Asthma & Immunology Consultants, as well as in the public sector at the Alfred Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. She has a special interest in the management and treatment of allergic diseases, including allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma. She has experience in the use of immunotherapy for grass pollen and dust mite allergy as well as monoclonal antibody treatments for severe asthma and urticaria.
Dr Lee has a PhD with the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. Her thesis focus was on improving asthma inhaler usage and difficult to control asthma. She has also undertaken research on epidemic thunderstorm asthma.

A/Prof Anne Vertigan is the manager of speech pathology for John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle Australia, and Conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle Australia. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Applied Science in Speech Pathology, Master of Business Administration, Master of Clinical Epidemiology, Master of Medical Statistics and a PhD through the University of Queensland. Anne’s clinical and research interests include voice disorders, chronic cough/VCD, laryngectomy and dysphagia.

Ms Janet Bondarenko is a senior respiratory physiotherapist and research fellow at Alfred Health and Monash University. She has extensive clinical experience in the management of chronic respiratory disease and is a PhD candidate researching the characteristics and treatment of dysfunctional breathing in difficult asthma.

Peter Gibson works as a doctor who cares for people with respiratory diseases and as a clinical scientist investigating the mechanisms and treatment of asthma, COPD, cough, and other airway disorders. He is a concept leader who has developed innovative approaches around inflammatory subtypes of asthma and cough; airway biomarkers; neurogenic mechanisms, laryngeal dysfunction and related treatments for refractory cough; multidimensional assessment and management of complex airway disorders such as severe asthma, airways diseases in the elderly, and asthma in pregnant women.

Mark Hew is head of Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. He holds dual specialist registration, in Respiratory & Sleep Medicine and Allergy & Clinical Immunology. At the Alfred, Mark has established specialised programs for severe asthma, inducible laryngeal obstruction, and difficult anaphylaxis.
Mark has mentored ten asthma/allergy fellows and seven PhD candidates. He serves on the editorial board of Allergy, the steering committee of the International Severe Asthma Registry (ISAR), the core committee of the ERS clinical research collaboration on digital health (CONNECT), and the education committee of the Asthma Treatable Traits CRE.
