Associate Professor Lauren Troy is a Respiratory Staff Specialist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Visiting Medical Officer at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Sydney Medical School, and Co-Director of the RPA Institute for Academic Medicine. Her interests are in ILD, respiratory infection, and interventional pulmonology.

Biography

Professor Alvin Ing is a Professor, Respiratory Medicine, and the Clinical Program Head of the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Program at Macquarie University. He has been involved in Interventional Pulmonology since 1993 when he established endobronchial laser resection and stent deployment via rigid bronchoscopy at Concord Hospital. Professor Ing pioneered the use of endobronchial valves in patients with COPD in Australia. He has been involved in several world first clinical trials, including bronchial rheoplasty to treat chronic bronchitis, polymer sealant and thermal liquid ablation to manage severe COPD, Galaxy robotic bronchoscopy and endobronchial therapy of lung cancer. He is currently the Principal Investigator for clinical trials and research with total grants of over 7 million dollars. As the program head of the Cardiovascular and Respiratory program, he oversees the growth and development of the disciplines of Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Renal Medicine at Macquarie University.

Biography

A/Prof. Badiei is a staff specialist in the department of thoracic medicine at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He initially completed a degree in Biomedical Engineering and then a PhD in Medicine prior to embarking on a career in medicine. His basic and initial advanced physician training was at the RAH before completing his fellowship at the pleural medicine unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Western Australia. He currently works as an interventional pulmonologist and is the pleural lead at the RAH. His research interests are in the area of interventional pulmonology and thoracic imaging.​

Fariha Alam is the Interventional Pulmonology Fellow at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Fariha completed her MBBS at Monash University (Melbourne), and Basic Physician Training at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. She has completed her Respiratory advanced training at Prince of Wales Hospital (Sydney), The Prince Charles Hospital (Brisbane) and The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Her special interests are in interventional bronchoscopy, lung cancer medicine and pleural medicine.

Biography

Rajesh Thomas is a Respiratory Medicine and Interventional Pulmonology consultant at Sir Charles Gairdner hospital, Perth. He leads the Lung Cancer and Bronchoscopy services at SCGH including an Interventional Bronchoscopy training program. His PhD research was on “Indwelling Pleural Catheter management in malignant pleural effusions” from the University of Western Australia, Perth. He continued as early career researcher with NHMRC and Cancer Council WA and his current research is focussed on improving thoracic cancer outcomes through advanced bronchoscopic interventions. He is passionate about bronchoscopic training and safety and runs regular interventional bronchoscopy workshops in Perth.
