Biography

Norman Morris is a physiotherapist who holds a joint research position as Professor (Cardiothoracic) at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane and Griffith University on the Gold Coast. His program of research examines the factors that limit, and interventions that improve, exercise tolerance in individuals with chronic heart and lung disease and is undertaken in both clinical and laboratory-based settings.

Biography

Dr Hayley Lewthwaite PhD is an accredited exercise physiologist and postdoctoral research fellow with the Centre of Research Excellence in Treatable Traits. Hayley’s research focuses on exploring pathological mechanisms underlying exertional breathlessness, with the aim of optimising symptom assessment and management. In particular, Hayley looks to find novel approaches to manage activity-related breathlessness and enable people who live with persistent breathlessness to be more active in their day-to-day life.

Biography

Nathan Ward is the Advanced Clinical Lead Physiotherapist for Cardiorespiratory Medicine at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He leads the team of physiotherapists providing clinical services as part of the Department of Thoracic Medicine, which includes the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service, South Australian Lung Transplant Service and the pulmonary rehabilitation and airway clearance services across the Central Adelaide Local Health Network. Nathan completed his PhD in 2021, where he investigated the role of exercise as an alternative to traditional airway clearance techniques in cystic fibrosis. He maintains an active involvement in clinical care and research. He has specific interests in how technology can optimise the effectiveness of airway clearance techniques, the role of exercise as a form of airway clearance and the prehabilitation of people awaiting cardiothoracic organ transplantation.
