Biography

Tracy is NATA’s Deputy Sector Manager for Legal and Clinical Services and is responsible for ensuring the technical integrity of accreditation in NATA’s respiratory, sleep and imaging programs. An experienced and passionate quality systems professional, Tracy is innovative in her approach to solving problems and developing client focused solutions. She is passionate about the quality of diagnostic testing in healthcare and the role accreditation can play in helping patients receive the right treatment outcomes.

Quality systems: A practical approach

Biography

Sonya Johnston is the Chief Medical Scientist in the Department of Thoracic Medicine at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH). In this role, she oversees the scientific operations of the Lung Function Laboratory and the Sleep Disorders Service. She also provides professional support to the scientific staff in the Respiratory Clinic Trials Unit and manages the strategic direction and governance of major respiratory information technology applications within Thoracic Medicine. Sonya has a strong interest in quality systems, standards, and accreditation in laboratory medicine. She currently chairs the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand (TSANZ) Laboratory Accreditation & Quality Committee and the TSANZ and National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) Respiratory Function Laboratory (RFL) Accreditation Advisory Committee. Previously, she chaired the RFL Accreditation Steering Committee, which was responsible for transitioning the TSANZ Respiratory Function Laboratory Accreditation Program and Standards to NATA. Furthermore, Sonya is the NATA representative for the Lung Function Laboratory and has previously for the Sleep Disorders Service at the RAH. As a respected TSANZ respiratory laboratory assessor and a former member of the Professional Standards Sub-Committee of TSANZ, she is recognised as an advocate for excellence in quality in respiratory medicine.

Biography

Brendan Kennedy is a Senior Hospital Scientist and Lab Manager at the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network, Westmead campus. Brendan has more than 20 years’ experience in Pulmonary Function testing. Brendan is very passionate about all aspects of Spirometry and has a strong interest in exercise physiology. Brendan has served on the ANZSRS Board, the Laboratory Accreditation Quality Committee (TSANZ) and more recently on the steering committee for the new TSANZ NATA Respiratory Function Laboratory Accreditation Standard.

Biography

Phillip Munoz is Scientific Director at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, with a passion for exercise physiology, laboratory innovation and improving digital health systems. His recent PhD explored how early-onset type 2 diabetes affects the heart and lungs — at rest, during exercise, and after high-intensity training. A former President of ANZSRS and current Chair of the PFT Clinical Expert Reference Group (NSW Health), Phillip is dedicated to modernising lab integration with eMR systems to enhance patient care and clinical efficiency.
