His research, at the University of Queensland Thoracic Research Centre, aims to reduce the burden of disease caused by lung cancer by focussing on lung cancer early detection, screening and smoking cessation.

Fraser Brims is the Deputy Director of the Institute for Respiratory Health and Chairs the Western Australian Mesothelioma Registry. His main research interests include clinical and epidemiological aspects of occupational (particularly asbestos) related lung disease, mesothelioma and the detection of early lung cancer using low dose CT scans. He leads the LUCAP lead investigator for the Lung Cancer Clinical Quality Data Platform (LUCAP project).

Specialising in respiratory, smoking cessation and lung health education and promotion, as well as quality systems and clinical governance for almost twenty years Appointed manager of the Lung Health Promotion Centre at the Alfred Hospital in March 2015, Janet manages and presents with world-class health professionals a diverse programme of specialist and general lung health and education seminars and courses. The Lung Health Promotion Centre at The Alfred, unique in Australia is a leading centre for courses related to Smoking Cessation, Asthma, COPD and Spirometry, as well as patient engagement and education methods, motivational interviewing and positive psychology.
