Biography

Dr Brown is a respiratory immunologist at the The University of Newcastle (UoN) and the Immune Health Program at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI). Dr Brown's research focuses on investigating high burden respiratory diseases, particularly alterations in nutrient metabolism in asthmatic disease, aiming to create a greater understanding of the pathogenesis of respiratory disease to discover novel therapeutic targets.

Biography

Simon Phipps undertook his PhD thesis at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London before postdoctoral fellowships at the ANU and the University of Newcastle. In 2010, he moved to UQ to set up an independent research laboratory, before joining QIMR Berghofer in 2017. His research program simulates gene-environment interactions and host-microbe interactions that predispose to severe lower respiratory infections in infancy and the subsequent development of childhood asthma to better understand the developmental origins of health and disease. He was recently awarded the Klosterfrau Award in recognition of his work in the field of paediatric pulmonology.

Biography

Doctor Hayley Scott is a Lecturer in Nutritional Biochemistry and Accredited Practising Dietitian, at the University of Newcastle. Her research aims to investigate the impact of obesity, diet, exercise and sex hormones on inflammation, and the effect this has on the pathogenesis of respiratory disease.

Biography

Dr James Fingleton is a respiratory physician and researcher at Wellington Regional Hospital, NZ where he is Clinical Director Sub-Speciality Medicine for the District. He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at University of Otago, Wellington and an invited lecturer for Victoria University of Wellington. Dr Fingleton is currently NZ CI for the Australasia Severe Asthma Registry, founding co-chair of the Australia New Zealand Respiratory Audit Program (ANZRAP) and was Chief Investigator of the NZ National Asthma Audit, the forerunner to ANZRAP conducted in 2019. Dr Fingleton’s research interests include treatable traits, pre-hospital asthma care, pulmonary fibrosis and the care of patients with asthma and COPD in primary and secondary care.
