Biography

Dr. Archit Chawla is a Respiratory Physician and bronchoscopist. He oversees Bronchoscopy governance, and is heavily involved in lung cancer care through his clinical and academic work. His PhD focuses on novel diagnostic models for lung cancer, and quality improvement through evaluating models of care for fast-track nodule clinics.

Her research focused on understanding the mechanisms underpinning chronic disease development in conditions including respiratory diseases, hypertension, obesity and others.

Ms Jacquline Piskos and Mr Joseph Iannella are third-year medical students at Macquarie University, Sydney. Jacqui and Joseph had undertaken this systematic review on cryo-biopsy use in Peripheral Pulmonary Lesions suspected of lung cancer as a part of their MD research project. This project was supervised by Dr Samantha Herath, who works as an interventional pulmonologist and a senior lecturer at Macquarie University Hospital and Northern Beaches Hospital and also holds a PhD in cryo-biopsy and Radial EBUS use in PPL. Mr Joseph Iannella will be presenting the abstract.

Biography

Paul Lilburn is an interventional pulmonologist based at The Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney since 2022. His special interests include advanced lung diseases, lung cancer, respiratory infections and all fields of interventional bronchoscopy e.g. bronchoscopic lung volume reduction, tissue sampling of peripheral pulmonary lesions using advanced imaging techniques as well as rigid bronchoscopy, central airway tumour debulking and airway stenting. Dr Lilburn is the current IP and Pleural Medicine SIG deputy-convenor and will be involved in helping to organise the World Congress for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WCBIP) in Melbourne in 2026.

Dr. Oberg is an Interventional Pulmonologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Program Director for the IP fellowship. She has clinical, research, and education interests in building lung nodule and lung cancer screening programs as well as the minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of thoracic malignancies.
