Biography

Rachelle Buchbinder combines rheumatology practice with clinical research. She is an NHMRC Investigator Fellow and Professor/Head, Musculoskeletal Health and Wiser Health Care Units in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University. She is known internationally as a vocal proponent of evidence-based medicine and for her landmark studies, particularly those examining treatments accepted into practice before their proper evaluation. Her 2021 book, 'Hippocrasy, how doctors are betraying their oath', written with orthopaedic surgeon Ian Harris, aims to highlight society’s overreliance on medicine for a general audience.

John Blakey is the Head of Department of Respiratory Medicine, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth and a Clinical Professor at Curtin University Medical School. He is the medical advisor for Asthma Australia and has an interest in Health Services Research.

Biography

Emily Lawton is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician at The Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia. She completed her undergraduate and physician training in the UK NHS before undertaking specialist respiratory training and fellowship at the RAH, where she continues to work. She is the lead physician running the Respiratory Rapid Access Service at the RAH, designed to reduce ED presentations and hospital admissions and improve patient outcomes. Her clinical specialties include ILD and PH and she currently chairs the Royal Adelaide Hospital Complex pulmonary hypertension MDM. She is the current SA/NT Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand President.

Biography

Danielle Stone is a Clinical Specialist Speech Pathologist with over 20-years' experience working across tertiary hospitals in Sydney, Australia and Vancouver, Canada. Danielle completed her PhD through The University of Sydney in 2021, investigating chronic-pain related voice, swallow and throat disorders after non-traumatic neck injury. Danielle leads the Functional Breathing Disorders Research Program at The Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.

Dr Blokland has research interests in cell biology, airway physiology, chronic lung disease and early detection of lung disease following bone marrow transplantation. His expertise includes complex measures of lung function, 3D imaging and molecular biology.
