Biography

Karen is a sleep scientist with over 16 years of experience across four institutions. She is currently completing a PhD at the University of Notre Dame Australia, investigating sleep disturbances and sleep apnoea in pregnancy, their relationship with depression, and their combined impact on perinatal outcomes. Her research draws on both objective and self-reported measures of sleep across two pregnancy cohorts, with findings that highlight the importance of examining sleep and depression together in antenatal care.

Biography

Dr Donald Lee BSc(Med) MBBS MMed FCCP FRACP is a consultant adult respiratory and sleep physician and Practice Principal at Nepean Lung and Sleep in Western Sydney. He graduated with honours from the University of New South Wales (1999) and completed specialist training at Royal North Shore Hospital and Concord Hospital, obtaining his FRACP in 2008. He holds a Master of Medicine from the University of Sydney (2005). His clinical interests include obstructive sleep apnoea, complex sleep-disordered breathing, COPD, asthma, pulmonary thromboembolic disease and lung cancer. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of TSANZ.

Nicolo's interests revolve around sleep measurement technology, systems physiology, and advanced data methods in sleep research.

Professor Ron Grunstein AM FAHMS is one of Australia's most distinguished sleep medicine clinicians and researchers, with over 30 years of experience. He holds the Chair of Sleep Medicine at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research (Macquarie University) and is a Senior Staff Specialist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. A pioneer in CPAP therapy and sleep-disordered breathing research, he is Australia's most published sleep researcher with over 400 publications. Past President of the World Sleep Federation (2007–2011) and recipient of multiple honours including the Nathaniel Kleitman Award (AASM, 2011) and Member of the Order of Australia (2019).
