PhD Student
University of Sydney
Feasibility and accuracy of multi-night wearable in sleep clinic cohort.
1:45 PM - 1:57 PMBiography
Joanne Flood is a PhD researcher in sleep medicine at the University of Sydney, focusing on the temporal dynamics of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Her research uses wearable technologies, physiological signal analysis, and predictive modelling to better understand night-to-night variability and improve OSA diagnosis. She is also a Research Assistant within the Sleep Research Group at the Charles Perkins Centre, contributing to clinical trials, large-scale data analysis, and peer-reviewed publications and conference abstracts. Joanne holds a Master of Philosophy and a Master of Biomedical Engineering from the University of New South Wales.
Dr Benjamin Tong
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
University of Sydney
Polysomnographic and endotypic characteristics of sleep apnoea in myocardial infarction
1:57 PM - 2:09 PMBiography
Dr. Benjamin Tong is a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Sleep Research Group at the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney and Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital. He completed his PhD in respiratory phenotyping of obstructive sleep apnoea at Neuroscience Research Australia.
He has a keen interest in novel sleep and respiratory measurement technology and novel therapeutic approaches for sleep disordered breathing.
His current research aims to understand the pathophysiological interactions between sleep and cardiovascular health.
Ms Alexandra Childs
Sleep Scientist
The Prince Charles Hospital Sleep Disorders Centre
Comparative response to NIV treatment in Myotonic Dystrophy
2:21 PM - 2:33 PMBiography
Alex is a University of Queensland Doctoral Candidate and Sleep Scientist at The Prince Charles Hospital. Her thesis focusses on defining the effectiveness of Non-invasive Ventilation in the Myotonic cohort. She works closely with the Myotonic and MD community to conduct research that reflects stakeholder needs and priorities.
Ms Kylie Russo
Health Services Researcher
Institute For Breathing And Sleep
Using co-design to improve NIV uptake in motor neurone disease
2:21 PM - 2:33 PMBiography
Kylie Russo is a health services researcher and sleep scientist whose work contributes to a research program on non-invasive ventilation in MND, with the aim of improving respiratory care, access, and outcomes for people living with MND.
Dr Ji Soo Chung
Sleep Research Fellow
Woolcock Institute of Medical Research
Long-term opioid dose trajectories in restless legs syndrome
2:33 PM - 2:45 PMBiography
Dr Ji Soo Chung is a physician in-training with strong interests in respiratory and sleep medicine. He completed the divisional written and clinical examinations of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and is currently undertaking a Sleep Research Fellowship at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research.
Mr Sebastien Gray
Research Assistant
Monash University
Shift Work Disorder and Functional Impairments in Australian Healthcare Workers
2:45 PM - 2:57 PMBiography
Sebastien Gray is a Research Assistant and Project Manager at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health. He earned his degree in Behavioral Neuroscience from Northeastern University in Boston, MA, USA. Following graduation, he started as a Clinical Investigative Technician in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
His research focuses on understanding the cognitive and mental health impacts of shift work and circadian misalignment. He aims to pursue a PhD and contribute to evidence-based strategies that promote healthier workplaces while addressing the challenges of an increasingly 24/7 society.
