This workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of non-respiratory sleep disorders across the lifespan through the lens of different members of the multidisciplinary sleep team. Scientific content will focus on providing the most up to date, evidenced-based guidance on how to manage insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, central disorders of hypersomnolence and more. Case studies will be used to highlight practical tips and tricks from experienced clinicians. Whilst this program is aimed to address the needs of Advanced Trainees in Sleep Medicine (Adult and Paediatric), it will be of interest to clinicians from a variety of backgrounds including primary care and allied health.

Biography

Prof Mukherjee is an experienced respiratory and sleep physician at SA Health and works in private practice in Adelaide. She is also Professor of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Flinders University. Currently, her major fields of interest are sleep apnoea, sleep disorders and sleep health. Prof Mukherjee been successful in obtaining multiple grants in the US, Canada and Australia (over $15M AUD), and has published extensively (>100 articles, >9000 citations, Google scholar) in high impact journals. Prof Mukherjee is a Past President of the Australasian Sleep Association. She was the featured co-host of Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Michael Mosley which aired on SBS in March 2024 and has won multiple national and international awards.

Biography

Dr David Cunnington is a sleep physician at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, and an Adjunct Fellow at the University of the Sunshine Coast. He is Chair of the clinical committee of the Australasian Sleep Association and a Field Editor for the journal Sleep Medicine. David's clinical and research interests span insomnia and its behavioural and pharmacological management, sleep diagnostics, complex sleep disordered breathing, narcolepsy and disorders of hypersomnolence, and sleep in psychiatric conditions.

Biography

A/Professor Jasneek Chawla is an experienced Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Specialist at Queensland Children’s Hospital, Brisbane and a clinician researcher leading the Kids Sleep Research Group at the Child Health Research Centre, University of Queensland. Her clinical and research interests include sleep in children with complex disability, other vulnerable populations and translating emerging paediatric sleep technologies for clinical practice. As the theme leader for Children and Disability within UQ’s Disability Collaboratory Group, Jas is a strong advocate for children with disability and works closely with many consumer representative organisations and individuals with lived experience in her work. Jas is the current president of the Australasian Sleep Association and is passionate about improving sleep for all Australians.

Biography

Dr Mandie Griffiths MBBS, BMedSc, FRACP Mandie is a paediatric respiratory and sleep physician who is the current Director of the Royal Children’s hospital (RCH) Sleep Unit, Melbourne. She also holds honorary Consultant appointments at the Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS) at the Austin Hospital & Cabrini Hospital Sleep Unit. Her original 4 yr fellowship in Respiratory & Sleep medicine was spent in Melbourne, Perth & Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has worked in Paediatric Sleep Medicine (public and private) for over 25 years. She has special interests in neuromuscular disease, respiratory support and Narcolepsy/The Hypersomnias. She is currently part of an ASA working group writing position statements on Central Disorders of Hypersomnolence from the Australian/New Zealand perspective.
