Artificial intelligence, wearable sensors and digital sleep technologies are rapidly transforming how sleep and sleep disorders are measured, analysed and interpreted. This half-day ANZSSA short course will explore the next generation of sleep diagnostics and how emerging technologies may reshape clinical sleep practice and research.
The course features international keynote speaker Professor Erna Sif Arnardóttir (Iceland) presenting insights from the European Union Horizon 2020-funded Sleep Revolution project - one of the world’s largest collaborative sleep technology initiatives involving 39 partners across Europe and Australia. Additional sessions from Australian experts will cover AI-enabled sleep analysis, wearable technologies, digital sleep monitoring, governance and accreditation considerations, and the future role of sleep laboratories and sleep scientists.
Participants will gain practical insight into current capabilities and limitations of AI and wearable technologies, how these approaches may complement traditional polysomnography, and how the sleep profession can proactively guide their responsible integration into clinical practice.

A/Prof Denise O’Driscoll is the Clinical Sciences Operations Manager for Sleep, Respiratory and Neurodiagnostics at Eastern Health and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Monash University. Her research explores the cardio-metabolic consequences of sleep apnoea across obesity, ageing and diverse ethnic populations.
As a Fellow of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, Denise has held senior leadership roles with TSANZ and the Australasian Sleep Association, and is the Chair of the ASA/NATA Accreditation Advisory Committee for Sleep Disorders Services.

Anna investigates innovative approaches to modulate sleep physiology to improve health across multiple populations. Before joining Monash University in 2025, she was an Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai in New York, researching links between sleep, cognition, and neurodegeneration using brain and biological biomarkers. She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney and Woolcock Institute and a Bachelor of Neuroscience and Psychology from UWA. As a RPSGT since 2004 and ANZSSA Board Director, her expertise focuses on physiological signal analysis and interpretation, and understanding the influence of sleep-wake physiology and psychology on brain health.
