This ASA Primary Care Council-led symposium brings together clinicians and researchers from across Australia and will present different perspectives of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) management from within primary care. The three different aspects of primary care OSA management will include: pharmacy-based care, simplified models of care in rural and Indigenous populations, and the role of new weight loss medications (GLP1RAs). Each presentation will include a discussion of important clinical issues, equity considerations in diverse populations and recent research to inform evidence-based practice in OSA management. The session will conclude with a panel discussion with all presenters.

Associate Professor Chai-Coetzer is a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Flinders University and a Respiratory and Sleep Physician who is Clinical Lead of the Sleep Health Service, Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. Her principal research interests are in sleep medicine clinical trials with a focus on primary care-based, health service delivery models for OSA, limited-channel sleep study testing, and optimising treatment adherence for OSA patients.

Casey Franchi is a research nurse, honours student and registered nurse at Flinders University. Her current research interests include new models of care for the management of sleep disorders within primary care. She is currently working on projects exploring the use of technology to support diagnosis and management of sleep disorders and the development of sleep education for First Nations Australians.

Professor Bandana Saini is a 40:40:20 academic based in the Sydney Pharmacy School, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. She is also a Research Leader and affiliate staff at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, Macquarie University. She is a passionate educator, an implementation scientist, asthma educator and community pharmacist. She has developed, implemented and evaluated several successful pharmacy-based service trials in respiratory and sleep health, which have changed respiratory health care in Australian pharmacy practice. She has over 230 peer reviewed research publications and over $31 million in research funding as a chief/associate investigator over her career.
