Biography

Melinda Jackson is a mid-career academic, Director of Research Impact and Engagement, and Head of the Sleep, Cognition and Mood Laboratory in the School of Psychological Sciences and Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health, Monash University. A/Prof Jackson is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Breathing and Sleep, Austin Health and a registered Psychologist. A/Prof Jackson is currently Chair of the Finance Committee and Board Member of the Australasian Sleep Association.

Biography

Liv McGuiness is a respiratory physiotherapist with the Respiratory Support Service at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and PhD candidate at the University of Sydney in collaboration with the Woolcock institute of Medical Research. Her projects centre around questions of what infection problems might exist, how we can examine bacterial contamination in real world devices and what practices future guidelines might incorporate. She is passionate about climate resilient healthcare and received a 2023 Sustainable Futures Innovation Grant from the Ministry of Health.

Kangchao Wu is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney. His research explores the role of melatonin in managing sleep disturbance and pain in musculoskeletal conditions. With a background in physiotherapy, Kangchao is passionate about translating sleep-focused interventions into clinical strategies for musculoskeletal pain management.

Biography

A/Prof Denise O'Driscoll is the Chief Sleep Scientist for Eastern Health and an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. She is an experienced biomedical research scientist focussing on sleep physiology. She served as a Board Director for the Australasian Sleep Association (Research Chair) from 2019-2023. Denise's research program focuses on the cardio-metabolic consequences of sleep apnoea, and its subsequent treatment, in the settings of obesity, aging and ethnicity.

Biography

Xinzhu (Cynthia) Li is a final-year PhD candidate at the University of Sydney and a practising hospital sleep scientist. Her research interests include sleep health, health monitoring technologies, PSG diagnostics, and lifestyle-based health improvement. She is also dedicated to patient education and teaching university students about sleep science and health. Cynthia is passionate about translating scientific findings into practical strategies to improve sleep and wellbeing. Her current doctoral research focuses on how textile properties, such as sleepwear fibre types, influence sleep quality and thermal comfort in menopausal women under warm conditions.

Biography

Dr. Omond is a postdoctoral researcher in the Circadian Physiology and Photobiology Translational Research Program in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. Her current research focusses on how menstrual phase, and/or lighting interventions can impact circadian phase and adaptation, and the effects on sleep structure and quality, as well as physical and cognitive performance. Dr. Omond hopes to expand the research of sleep impacts on performance metrics to wider populations.
