This year in review session will provide an important summary of the latest papers and best scientific contributions in the field of sleep science and technology. It is an opportunity to communicate and summarise the latest evidence relevant for clinical practice and from basic and translational research. In this session expert sleep scientists and physiologists will highlight the latest advances in the preceding year across four main topics of glymphatics and the functions of sleep; advances in sleep EEG analysis; sleep measurement technologies; and PAP technologies and algorithms.

Dr Andrea Ricciardiello is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. She currently leads the neuromodulation research theme in the Centre for Chronic Diseases of Ageing.

Biography

Dr Scott Coussens is the Manager and Senior Medical Scientist of the Sleep Disorders Unit at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide, with over 20 years of experience in sleep science. His expertise spans Paediatric sleep, EEG, and Cognitive Neuroscience. He is an Adjunct Senior Fellow with the University of Adelaide’s School of Psychology and currently serves as the South Australian Representative for ANZSSA and board member of the Australian Council of Clinical Physiologists (ACCP). A passionate researcher and educator, Dr Coussens is committed to advancing the science and clinical practice of paediatric sleep medicine across Australia and New Zealand.

Biography

Tom Churchward is Head Respiratory and Sleep Scientist at Austin Health, Victoria, with 30 years’ experience in respiratory and sleep medicine. He leads clinical labs, drives innovation, and advances sleep study practices. A former president of the ACCP and the ANZSSA, Tom has recently led a regional physiologist education alliance and combines clinical and management expertise with digital health to improve sleep and breathing care.
