The course will include professional development sessions, talks from experienced researchers and networking. The NEST Fest is a fantastic opportunity to meet other students and early career researchers and learn from senior leaders. Biography

Charlotte is a senior postdoctoral research fellow at the Appleton Institute at CQUniversity. Charlotte’s research investigates the optimal timing of sleep and nutrition, particularly for those working non-standard hours, such as shiftworkers. Charlotte is passionate about improving sleep health in Australia, and her research on sleep and meal timing has informed practice and policy for shiftworkers.

Dr Meagan Crowther is a Research Fellow at Monash University. Meagan's research focuses on the development of interventions to improve sleep and mental health in those vulnerable to inadequate sleep. Meagan is the research lead on NHMRC funded "Sleep in Perinatal Care" project. Meagan is also the current co-chair of ASA NEST.

Biography

Madeline is a researcher and Senior Lecturer at CQUniversity’s Appleton Institute, specialising in sleep, non-standard working arrangements, fatigue detection technology, and fatigue risk management. Madeline has led projects focused on fatigue and risk management across various industries, including transport, mining, healthcare, ports, and utilities. Her work has involved collaboration with key regulatory bodies such as the Australian National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and WorkSafeBC in Canada to improve workplace safety.

Biography

Dr Bei Bei is an Associate Professor and NHMRC Emerging Leadership (EL2) Fellow at School of Psychological Sciences, Monash University, and leads the Behavioural Sleep Medicine service, rearch, and training at Monash University Healthy Sleep Clinic. She holds a Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) and a PhD from University of Melbourne. Her research and clinical work focus on the individual differences in sleep-wake behaviours, the relationship between sleep and mental health, and making evidence-based psychological interventions for better sleep more widely available to the community.

Biography

Cele Richardson is a Clinical Psychologist and Senior Research Fellow in the School of Psychological Science and Centre for Sleep Science at the University of Western Australia. Cele is currently a NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow. Through her research, Cele develops and evaluates novel treatments for sleep problems, such as Delayed Sleep Wake Phase Disorder and Insomnia. She also has an interest in understanding mechanisms linking sleep with symptoms of depression, anxiety and eating disorders in young people.

Sian is a PhD candidate at Flinders University (FHMRI Sleep Health) and a registered paramedic. Her research investigates the lived experience of fatigue and sleep loss among shift working Australian paramedics. Drawing on these insights, her work is contributing to the development of an evidence base that informs systematic approaches to better support fatigue management and sleep health in this essential workforce.

I am an Associate Professor at CQUniversity’s Appleton Institute. My mission is to help Australia’s workers get better sleep by collaborating with researchers and industry to create healthier and safer workplaces. My research program focuses on three key areas: improving sleep and health in workplace settings, understanding how physical activity and diet influence sleep, and developing behavioural interventions to promote better sleep health.

Dr Melinda Jackson is an academic and sleep psychologist, and heads the Sleep Cognition and Mood Laboratory in the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health at Monash University. Her research examines the impact of sleep loss and sleep disorders on cognition, mood and brain health, and explores the impact of different treatment approaches to address sleep issues in community and clinical populations.

Biography

Natasha is a PhD scholar at Macquarie University, where she is investigating sleep disturbances in Huntington's disease - a rare, genetic neurodegenerative disease. Natasha is also an accredited sleep technologist and neurophysiologist (ACCP), working as a high-density electroencephalography research assistant at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. Natasha serves as a communications officer for The Network of Early career Sleep researchers in Training (NEST) Council of the Australasian Sleep Association.

Biography

Tracey Sletten is an Associate Professor and ARC Industry Fellow with the School of Psychological Sciences and Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health at Monash University. Tracey’s primary research interests focus on the adverse health and safety implications of sleep loss and circadian misalignment, and on targeted interventions to improve sleep health. As Head of the Circadian Misalignment and Shift Work Laboratory, Tracey leads a research program on the impacts of sleep and circadian disruption in shift workers, including large-scale trials in multiple unique industry settings. Tracey is leading globally recognised research in the Australian aviation industry providing world-first sleep, circadian and alertness data in flight and cabin crew during the longest passenger flights in history. Tracey serves on the Industry Research and Collaboration Committee of the Sleep Health Foundation.

Biography

Camilla M. Hoyos, PhD, MPH is a sleep researcher in the Centre for Sleep and Chronobiology at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and in the Faculty of Medicine, Human and Health Sciences at the Macquarie University. Her research focus is on conducting clinical trials to further understand the impacts of sleep disorders on health outcomes including cardio-metabolic health and cognitive decline.

Biography

Ian Dunican was born and raised in Ireland. He served five years in an Infantry unit in the Irish Army. After leaving the military, he spent two years working in the health and fitness industry and moved to Perth, Western Australia. He worked for ten years in the mining industry, in health, safety, fatigue, human performance, and business improvement in Australia and worldwide. In 2017, he founded Melius Consulting, a scientific consultancy based in Perth, Western Australia. Additionally, he is involved in numerous research projects worldwide related to sleep and regularly publishes in academic journals. He has also completed over 20 ultramarathons, swum solo and in duos to Rottnest Island (20km), and holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Biography

Simon is Respiratory and Sleep Physician, specialising in general respiratory and sleep medicine, lung cancer, pleural medicine, and ventilatory failure. He serves as a staff specialist and Director of Physician Education at the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. Currently, he is completing a PhD at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, researching digital health solutions for chronic respiratory and sleep conditions.
