Biography

Professor Ron Grunstein has been a consultant physician in sleep disorders for over 30 years. He has a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and MD degrees from The University of Sydney and a PhD from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. He is currently a Senior Staff Specialist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Professor of Sleep Medicine at the University of Sydney. He is head of the Sleep and Circadian Research Group at Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, Macquarie University. Professor Grunstein previously served as President of World Sleep Federation (2007-2011) and has over 450 publications in sleep-related topics.

Biography

Nicole Grivell is a final year PhD student, Implementation Scientist at University of Melbourne, and Research Associate at Flinders University. She conducts research in sleep and respiratory health, specifically the design and implementation of new models of care, the management of chronic sleep disorders by nurses in general practice, and enhancing the monitoring and management of respiratory and sleep health in people living with motor neurone disease. Nicole is interested in consumer engagement in research, qualitative methodologies, and the use of implementation science theory and frameworks in health research.

Biography

Dr Stuart Miller is a senior respiratory and sleep physician and Director of Canberra Sleep Lab. A sleep medicine alumnus of the University of Adelaide, he holds fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand. Dr Miller’s clinical background spans respiratory, anaesthetic, and intensive care medicine, which he has practiced across Australia, the UK, and the USA. His clinical interests and vision maintain a keen focus on holistic, data-informed, and person-centred patient care.

Garry is a PhD candidate at The Woolcock Institute and Macquarie investigating the neurophysiological and cognitive effects of OSA in patients with schizophrenia. His primary interest in understanding the neurobiology of sleep and how they may become candidate markers for neurological and psychiatric conditions.

Biography

Natasha is a PhD scholar, investigating sleep disturbances in Huntington disease. Her candidature is supported by Macquarie University’s Research Excellence scholarship. Natasha is an accredited sleep technologist and neurophysiologist (ACCP). Natasha has more than three years experience in the sleep field, including over a year working as a high-density electroencephalography research assistant at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. Natasha is a Communications Officer on The Network of Early career Sleep researchers in Training (NEST) Council of the Australasian Sleep Association and a member of the Australia and New Zealand Sleep Science Association.

Phil Teuwen is an experienced Clinical Physiologist and healthcare leader with over 15 years in sleep medicine, workforce development, and service innovation. He has managed multidisciplinary departments at a major private hospitals and is the founder of Bedpost Sleep Collective, performing allied health led, complex sleep assessments and integrated care. Phil is an ACP and CSS, and has contributed to national and international healthcare programs as a mentor and facilitator. His work bridges clinical practice with research, exploring novel interventions in sleep health, and he is passionate about improving outcomes for patients with complex medical and psychological sleep presentations.
