Biography

Travis is a postdoctoral reserach fellow at the Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine, The University of Melbourne. He is a clinical researcher with a focus on advancing nonsurgical management for people with joint pain. He is also a clinical physiotherapist who manages persistent pain and related conditions, such as osteoarthritis.

Sleep disturbance amongst university students: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study

Biography

Dr Kevin Wu is a Basic Physician Trainee in Melbourne with a keen interest in sleep medicine. During his medical degree, he conducted a systematic literature review that underscored the need for further research into Australian university students’ attitudes toward sleep. Building on these findings, he has developed these ideas further in his current presentation.

Biography

Laura Astbury is a final-year Clinical Psychology PhD Candidate and Psychologist at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health at Monash University. She has been a member of the Bei Sleep and Mental Health Group at the Monash University since 2018 and she received a bachelor's degree in psychology (with honours) from Monash University in 2020. Laura's research focuses on maternal and infant sleep and maternal mental health across the pregnancy and postpartum periods. Laura is also a clinician who delivers cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia during the perinatal period.

Biography

Orly is a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology at Monash University. Her project is exploring the implementation barriers and facilitators of CBT-I in perinatal individuals. Her research, which has fuelled her interest in implementation science, has led her to author the implementation paper she will be presenting. Orly’s passion for clinical psychology stems from a desire to help people facing adversity by creating long-lasting individual change. Currently, Orly is gaining valuable experience through a placement at Headspace Elsternwick, where she is passionate about working with youth. Outside her professional pursuits, Orly enjoys staying active through exercise, taking walks with friends, listening to music, and staying connected with family both near and far.

Dr Matthew Rahimi is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research with expertise in sleep medicine, insomnia, and obstructive sleep apnoea. Mathew's research focuses on the pathophysiology and treatment of comorbid sleep disorders, including digital health interventions to improve sleep and cognitive health in older adults.

Eleni Kavaliotis is a Research Fellow in the Sleep, Cognition, and Mood Laboratory at Monash University and a registered Psychologist. Her research focuses on the intricate relationship between sleep and mental health, particularly how sleep serves as a modifiable mechanism underpinning the development, maintenance, and recovery from mental health disorders. Eleni’s aim is to bridge the gap between scientific research and community impact, helping individuals achieve better sleep and, in turn, better mental health.
