Speaker
Dr Shauni Omond
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School
Impact of circadian adaptation on sleep architecture and neurobehavioural performance
3:30 PM - 3:42 PMBiography
Dr. Omond is a postdoctoral researcher in the Circadian Physiology and Photobiology Translational Research Program in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. Her current research focusses on how menstrual phase, and/or lighting interventions can impact circadian phase and adaptation, and the effects on sleep structure and quality, as well as physical and cognitive performance. Dr. Omond hopes to expand the research of sleep impacts on performance metrics to wider populations.
Dr Daniel Windred
Research Associate
Flinders University
Longer wake predicts shorter subsequent sleep across ~450,000 free-living episodes
3:42 PM - 3:54 PMBiography
Dr. Daniel Windred is a research associate at Flinders University. His research focusses on circadian rhythms and population health, with a particular focus on relationships of sleep regularity and light exposure with cardiometabolic outcomes.
Mr Reece Kemp
Casual Academic
Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute / Sleep Health
Daylight-saving time effect on sleep and wake of Australian population
3:54 PM - 4:06 PMBiography
Reece Kemp is a young and enthusiastic professional with over 7 years of experience in Sleep Psychology. Throughout his career, Reece has gained comprehensive knowledge in psychological methodology, practice, and theoretical perspectives, thanks to one of the leading degrees in Psychology at Flinders University. His professional research experience includes leading research at Flinders University’s Health and Medical Institute (FHMRI): Sleep Health under the supervision of renowned sleep expert Professor Leon Lack. Reece is also passionate about the practice of sleep psychology, directing his own Clinical Sleep Psychology Practice in Adelaide.
Dr Luis Mascaro
Research Fellow
Monash University
Training schedules and light as synchronisers of athlete circadian rhythms
4:06 PM - 4:18 PMBiography
Dr Luis Mascaro is a research fellow, assistant lecturer, and registered psychologist. Luis’s research is based out of the Facer-Childs ‘Sleep and Performance’ Research Lab at Monash University. His research seeks to answer novel questions about athlete sleep and circadian rhythms, with a particular commitment to supporting athlete mental well-being and advancing research that supports women in sport. Luis is dedicated to evidence-based practice and hopes that his work as a scientist-practitioner will contribute to better outcomes in the broader community.
Dr Bastien Lechat
Senior Research Fellow
Flinders University
Night-to-night variability in temperature is associated with decreased sleep regularity
4:18 PM - 4:30 PMBiography
Bastien is a Senior Research fellow at FHRMI:Sleep health interested in obstructive sleep apnoea pathohysiology, wearables technologies, and global sleep health.
Miss Katrina Nguyen
Student
Flinders University
Sleep irregularity doesn't predict mental health in sleep-disordered young adults
4:30 PM - 4:42 PMBiography
Katrina Nguyen is currently a PhD candidate at Flinders University. Her research focuses on the sleep irregularity of young adults with clinically significant sleep disorders, and the associations between sleep irregularity and mental health, performance, and quality of life outcomes.
Ms Olivia McGuiness
Physiotherapist
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
Can bacteria survive in PAP airflow: A conceptual benchtop study
4:42 PM - 4:54 PMBiography
Liv McGuiness is a respiratory physiotherapist in the Respiratory Support Service at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and PhD candidate at the University of Sydney in collaboration with the Woolcock institute of Medical Research. Her projects centre around questions of what infection problems might exist, how we can examine the bioaerosol problem in real world devices and what practices future guidelines might incorporate. She is passionate about climate resilient healthcare and received a 2023 Sustainable Futures Innovation Grant from the Ministry of Health.
