Update on the ANZSSA certification in sleep science exam

Dr Warren Ruehland is a respiratory and sleep scientist from Austin Health, and the Institute for breathing and Sleep, Melbourne. He has over 25 years’ experience in both clinical and research settings and is co-founder of the PSG scoring quality control service QSleep. He has a broad research background including a PhD examining OSA pathogenesis. Warren has been involved in producing guideline documents such as the 2020 ASA/ANZSSA commentary on the AASM Manual, ERS Technical Standards for Using Type III Devices, and ASA 2024 guidelines for sleep studies in adults. He is currently chair of the ANZSSA Certification Exam Taskforce.

Brett is currently the Laboratory Director of the Metro South Sleep Service, which provides sleep services at the Princess Alexandra and Logan Hospitals. Brett has held various roles within the profession, including ANZSSA and the ASA. Brett is also a sessional lecturer for Griffith University in their Graduate Clinical Physiology program. Brett's research interests focus on obstructive sleep apnoea and snoring, sleep diagnostics, and ventilator technologies.

Angela is manager of WellSleep an accreditated sleep laboratory in Wellington New Zealand. Her research interests are varied but include outcomes from diagnostic testing and equity issues in sleep medicine. As well as managing WellSleep, Angela teaches undergraduate medical students about sleep medicine and post graduate students in medical technology.
