Alexandra Shriane is in the final stages of her PhD candidature at the Appleton Institute, CQUniversity. Her research focuses on behavioural interventions to improve sleep outcomes in shiftworkers. Having spent more than 10 years as a shiftworker herself, Alex is passionate about equipping shiftworkers with evidence-based tools to manage the health and wellbeing challenges of their work commitments.

Dr. Lee is currently associate professor of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine. She is also a member of Swedish Digital Twin Consortium, which linked to Linkoping University and Karolinska Institute. Her clinical interest is sinonasal disease, allergic rhinitis, and sleep disease and translational research interest is systems medical expertise to personalized medicine using omics and network analysis. She has published over 50 publications in peer reviewed journals.

Dr Tim Smithies is a Scientific Consultant at Melius Consulting, and an Adjunct Lecturer at the Appleton Institute, CQUniversity. Tim has previously undertaken and published research in sleep and cognition, travel and jet-lag in elite athlete populations, and sleep and esports performance. Tim's current work is primarily centred around shift and roster design, sleep education, and fatigue risk management in shiftwork environments. Tim's current research interests include shift and roster optimisation, fatigue countermeasures, and sleep and athletic performance.

Nicole Grivell is an Implementation Scientist and Sleep Research Registered Nurse with an interest in alternative models of care for sleep disorder management, implementation science, the sleep and breathing of individuals living with motor neurone disease, consumer engagement in research, and qualitative research. She is currently completing her PhD in which she is investigating the barriers and facilitators to the implementation of general practice-delivered OSA and insomnia management. Nicole is a co-chair of the Primary Care Council and is a member of the Conference Committee.

Having graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Monash University, Rachel aspires to be a clinical psychologist. With interests in sleep, youth and mental health, she strives to broaden her knowledge in these fields through clinical and research experiences. Currently working as a project coordinator for the iCLASS study, Rachel explores her interest in learning about how changes to sleep and light patterns influences brain development and mental wellbeing during adolescence. Jenny Haycock is a Research Associate at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, Flinders University. She is the co-chair of the Sleep Health Foundation Consumer Reference Council and co-chair of the Australasian Sleep Association Primary Care Council.

Biography

Louise is from the south of the South Island of New Zealand and identifies as Kāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe and Waitaha Māori. She has been a teacher for 26 years, most recently working in the high and complex needs sector. Currently, Louise is living in Auckland with her partner and adult twin daughters, and is studying towards a Doctor of Clinical Psychology at Massey University. Her research journey began with a longitudinal analysis comparing the sleep health of neurodivergent and neurotypical children and continues with investigating sleep health interventions from autistic adolescents' perspectives.

Jessica Paterson is currently an Associate Professor at Flinders University. Associate Professor Jessica Paterson has extensive experience in the field of sleep in a clinical and research capacity. She recently was involved in a research project investigating the feasibility of group delivered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia in individuals experiencing both chronic pain and sleep difficulties. Jessica is passionate about facilitating discussion of sleep treatment for individuals with chronic pain conditions in order to increase quality of care provided by multi-disciplinary teams to these individuals.

Dr. Lionel Rayward is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). On completing his Bachelor of Engineering (Medical) in 2018, he took on PhD studies with the Biomechanics and spine research group working on a collaborative project with Sealy Australia, applying computational modelling to understand the human-mattress interaction during sleep. Upon completing his PhD in 2023, he took on a role as a postdoctoral researcher in the newly established QUT – Sealy centre for sleep and biomechanics research, to continue research in sleep ergonomics.

Margo has worked on numerous projects that have focused on sleep, fatigue and performance in applied settings such as aviation. She completed her doctorate in 2019, which focused on evaluating the current status and future needs of Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS) for Cabin crew, using a mixed methods approach. Margo’s primary research focus is on monitoring, evaluating and managing fatigue in workplace settings. She has a particular interest in the effect of workload on fatigue, and fatigue risk management as a whole of life issue.
