This is a fantastic opportunity to network with other students and early career researchers in the sleep field, as well as mid-career and senior leaders. Charlotte is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Appleton Institute at Central Queensland University and completed her PhD in 2020. Charlotte’s research investigates the optimal timing of sleep and nutrition, particularly for those working non-standard hours such as shiftworkers. Charlotte is an emerging research leader in the field of chrononutrition, and her research on the impacts of meal timing at night on work performance has informed practice and policy for shiftworkers.

Rick Wassing is an early career researcher at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and a Lecturer (research) at the School of Psychological Sciences, Macquarie University. He leads the data analysis group and directs insomnia research programs focussing on understanding how sleep disturbances increase the risk of mental health disorders, particularly on the neurobiological mechanisms of insomnia, its effects on mood, and innovative treatment approaches. Rick completed his PhD at De Vrije Universiteit (The Netherlands), winning the Neurofederation Thesis Prize. His expertise includes neuroimaging (EEG, MRI), neuromodulation, and statistical modelling. He also chairs the Woolcock Consumer Advisory Panel and serves on editorial board for the Journal of Sleep Research.

Dr. Leigh Signal is a Professor of Fatigue Management and Sleep Health at the Sleep/Wake Research Centre, Massey University, Wellington. Much of her research is focused on identifying, managing and mitigating fatigue in applied settings, particularly for the aviation industry. She has worked with aircraft manufacturers, national and international airlines and regulators and has conducted studies onboard aircraft and in the laboratory environment. Leigh provides scientific advice to industry groups and regulators on the management of fatigue and is also often asked to provide expert evidence on the possible role of fatigue in workplace incidents and accidents.

Dr Jen Walsh is the Director of the Centre for Sleep Science at the University of Western Australia also leads the sleep physiology research team at the West Australian Sleep Disorders Institute at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Jen’s research focuses on investigating the causes of, and treatments for, sleep disorders including obstructive sleep apnoea and insomnia. Since 2016 her research has included investigating the use of medicinal cannabis for the treatment of sleep disorders. With the CSS team she is also dedicated to providing evidenced-based sleep education.
