Benjamin Tong is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney. He has a background in biomedical engineering and his research interests include the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), novel therapies for OSA and the association of OSA and cardiovascular risk.

A/Prof Denise O'Driscoll is the Chief Sleep Scientist for Eastern Health and is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Monash University. She is a past current Board Director of the Australasian Sleep Association - Research Chair. Her research program focuses on the cardio-metabolic consequences of sleep apnoea, and its subsequent treatment, in the settings of obesity, aging and ethnicity.

Yichen Zhong is a current research intern at the Monash University Healthy Sleep Clinic, assisting clinicians with sleep assessments, administration of research instruments and clinical data management. She is also currently a Project Coordinator for the Project SWITCH study and a recent Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) graduate at Monash University. Her research interests include sleep and mental health across diverse populations, including individuals with sleep disorders, minority groups, and the aging population. She aspires to become a clinical psychologist and researcher, contributing to the advancement of treatment approaches.

Eric Staykov is currently completing a PhD at The University of Queensland on the link between airway obstruction severity and obstructive sleep apnoea symptomatology. Eric was a recipient of a Sleep DownUnder poster award in 2022 (Sleep and Breathing Clinical theme). Eric has published his PhD research in the journals CHEST and SLEEP. Biography

Professor Simon Smith is group leader of the Community Sleep Health Group at the Child Health Research Centre (UQ), and leads the UQ node for two ARC Centre’s of Excellence - Children and Families Over the Life Course (the Life Course Centre), and Digital Child. His work has focusses on the study of health, mental health and wellbeing in the community and across the life course. Simon has a breadth of knowledge, and experience with health and behavioural science methodologies, having worked on experimental and longitudinal research using both qualitative and quantitative methods.

Biography

Associate Professor Mathias Baumert is an IEEE Fellow and leads the Biomedical Engineering Discipline at the University of Adelaide. He has won an Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship and an Australian Research Fellowship from the Australian Research Council as well as a Career Development Award from the National Health & Medical Research Council Australia. His research focuses on creating biomedical signal processing technologies and translating them to the clinical setting, with an emphasis on overnight polysomnography. He has authored over 130 peer-reviewed articles in the fields of biomedical engineering, cardiology, physiology and neuroscience. His work has been cited more than 6,900 times.

She was exposed to sleep medicine following completing a Bachelor of medical science, working as an adult sleep scientist at The Canberra Hospital. Following this, she pursued a career in medicine, completing her MBBS at Monash University. While she has changed her focus to paediatrics, she never lost her fascination with the intricacy and complexity of the world of sleep.

Daniel Bird is a current sleep fellow at the Prince Charles Hospital with previous extensive exposure to sleep medicine in his core thoracic years at the Princess Alexandra and Gold Coast University hospitals in south east Queensland. Dan has a special interest in domiciliary non-invasive ventilation particularly for the management of obstructive airways disease and how it might be better utilised to improve QOL, health care utilisation and even mortality. Dan plans to commence working in sleep medicine in the Gold Coast and Tweed region next year as a junior consultant.
