We are honoured to be guided by Te Raukura Hawke (Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei) for the pōwhiri to welcome our visitors and open our convention. Please follow these guidelines:
• Assemble on Level 5 of the NZICC, in Foyers 4, 5 & 6 outside the central entrance door to the Te Paepae Theatre no later than 8.45am.
• NZPF Executive and ICP Executive members gather together with other invited guests in Foyer 3 outside Room 501.
• Envelopes will be circulated for the collection of koha (monetary gifts) to be passed to our hosts by our kaumatua. Please bring cash to add to this if you wish (notes preferred).
• Please turn phones to silent mode, and refrain from taking photos.
• When you hear the call for silence, please be quiet and follow the instructions of Te Raukura, who will guide the proceedings.
• Delegates will enter Te Paepae Theatre and be seated. Women in front, men follow behind. Please do not occupy the reserved seating unless previously advised.
• The NZPF and ICP Executive members with other invited guests, representing manuhiri [visitors], will ascend the stage and be seated opposite tangata whenua [host tribe], where formal protocols will take place (speeches, waiata, hongi).
• Following the pōwhiri, please make your way to the Exhibition Hall on Level 3 for kai (food and refreshments).
