Biography

Dr. Rae Siʻilata (Ngāti Raukawa, Tūhourangi, Fiji) is Director of Vaʻatele Education Consulting; and was previously Senior Lecturer at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, and Waipapa Taumata Rau/University of Auckland. Rae has been a classroom and ESOL teacher, a founding principal in Samoa, an education academic, curriculum writer, and PLD provider. Rae is a board trustee of the Centre for Pacific Languages, a member of the Ministry of Education’s National Advisory Group ESOL and the Ministry’s Aoao Pacific Bilingual and Immersion Advisory Group. Rae was a member of the Teaching Council’s Pacific Steerage Group, and lead writer of the Education Review Office’s: The ‘Afa Framework: Pacific Bilingual and Immersion Education Indicators (2023). Rae’s current work focuses on supporting leaders and teachers in Pacific Bilingual/Immersion Education, bilingual and biliteracy development, and cultural competency.
