Details

The “Protecting Our Crowded Places from Attack: New Zealand’s Strategy” provides a unified approach to safeguarding our crowded places. This strategy and its supporting documents convey clear messages on how to Deter, Detect, Delay, and Respond to potential attacks. They are purposefully designed for use by owners, operators, and the public as a foundational step in mitigating such threats. Everyone has a crucial role in maintaining the safety of our crowded places—be they government officials, owners and operators, community organizers, or members of the public. Just as a bow wave leads and guides a vessel through the water, the NZ Crowded Places Strategy leads the way in preventing and responding to potential harm. It sits firmly at the front of the waka, guiding and steering our collective efforts to ensure that the places where we work, play, and gather remain safe, secure, and free for everyone to be themselves.

Leading the Way in Protecting Our Crowded Places

Biography

Richard has been a Police Officer for 31 years, spending most of his career on the front line: including 13 years on the Armed Offenders Squad. He comes from a Police family that includes his father, uncle, two cousins, two brothers and wife who have all worn blue. Work is juggled around a hectic family life with five children all under 15 years! Richard’s appointment to Senior Prevention Partnership Advisor - Crowded Places is evidence of Police’s commitment to making Aotearoa/New Zealand the safest country for everyone who works in, uses, or visits a Crowded Place.
