EdU-for-All: developing an affordable and user-friendly click methodology for decoding DNA replication and cell cyclep

Biography

Dr Contreras studies tissue regeneration and homeostasis loss in mammals, focusing on the stem cell and stromal compartments. His work identified fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) as drivers of tissue regeneration and disease. Dr Contreras leverages in vivo and cell-based 3D systems to explore mammalian heart and muscle development, congenital disease pathophysiology, and tissue regeneration. Recognized for research and leadership, he serves on committees, advisory boards, and scientific societies. As an ECR, Dr Contreras promotes open research, scientific culture, diversity, and equality. He is a preLighter, member of the Postdoctoral and Diversity Committees, eLife Community Ambassador, and founder of the IUBMB Trainee Initiative.

The development of anti-Human Calcitonin Receptor antibodies to track receptor expression in blood diseases and activity in apoptosis using flow cytometry

Biography

Associate Professor Peter Wookey is research director with co-director Professor David Hare for a group including four PhD students in the Department of Medicine-Austin, University of Melbourne, Australia. We have developed first-in-class monoclonal antibodies that bind extracellular epitopes of G protein-coupled receptors including calcitonin (CT) receptor. Such antibodies are slowly accumulated into live cells making them suitable vectors for treatment of diseased cells and imaging of stressed cells that express CT Receptor. One antibody conjugate CalRexinTM:568 has been deployed to measure apoptosis by FACS and confocal imaging, and is now a proprietary reagent of Apop Biosciences, founded by Dr Wookey.
