Genetic risks in early-onset cardiovascular diseases

Biography

Janny is a PhD student with the Christchurch Heart Institute under the Department of Medicine at the University of Otago, Christchurch. She is interested in how circulating biomarkers (including genetics) could be used to help identify people at risk of cardiovascular disease. She has a particular interest in identifying the factors that contribute to lower circulating levels of NT-proBNP in Pacific Peoples and discovering genetic factors that contribute to heightened risk of cardiovascular disease among New Zealand families with early-onset disease.

Biography

Vinay is an advanced trainee in the Wellington and Nelson regions having previously undertook a large portion of his earlier basic training in Auckland. He has a broad interest in all aspects of cardiology. Outside of work you can find him travelling, running and playing or watching sports late into the night. He is currently based at Nelson Hospital and is inspired by what the region has to offer both in the hospital and outside of work.

James is an advanced trainee in Cardiology at Waikato Hospital. He is currently in his final year of training with an interest in interventional and structural cardiology and the management of a critically unwell patient.
