Prof. Boyoung Joung is a professor of cardiology, the Director of the Yonsei Heart Rhythm Center, and Vice President of Yonsei University Severance Hospital. Prof. Joung is the principal investigator of the Korean multicenter AF registry (CODE-AF) and several clinical trials funded by the Korean Ministry of Health, including the ALONE-AF and SINGLE-AF trials. He also serves as the chairperson of the Korean AF guidelines (2018 and 2021) and the NOAC guidelines (2018 and 2022). He is currently the Vice President of the Korean Heart Rhythm Society. Prof. Joung has published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles as a principal investigator, including in JAMA, BMJ, Annals of Internal Medicine, European Heart Journal, Circulation, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
He focuses on improving patient care in four principal areas: (i) generating new evidence for arrhythmia treatment and clinical guidelines; (ii) applying artificial intelligence to AF management; (iii) preventing stroke and dementia related to AF; and (iv) developing biodrugs for arrhythmia treatment.

Andrew Krahn, M.D., FRCPC, FHRS, is a Professor in the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia. He received his MD from the University of Manitoba. His clinical expertise is in management of cardiac arrhythmias. Current research interests include investigation of genetic causes of arrhythmias, causes of loss of consciousness and implantable arrhythmia devices.
Dr. Krahn has research funded by a Foundation grant from the Canadian Institute of Health Research through 2027. His research has been published in numerous high-impact scientific journals such as Circulation, JAMA, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the New England Journal of Medicine, and the European Heart Journal. He founded the Hearts in Rhythm Organization (HiRO – www.heartsinrhythm.ca). He has published >500 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He sits on the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm and the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology.
Dr. Krahn is affiliated with several professional associations, including the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, and the Heart Rhythm Society. He is past-President of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, and past-President of the Heart Rhythm Society. He was the Head of Cardiology at UBC from 2012-2023. He is the Paul Brunes Chair in Heart Rhythm Disorders, and the Sauder Family and Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon Chair in Cardiology.

Beyond his clinical role, Dr Mandrola has become a prominent figure in medical journalism and digital education. He writes a regular and widely read column for theHeart.org, where he addresses developments in cardiology, clinical trial interpretation and healthcare policy. He is also the host of the highly regarded “This Week in Cardiology” podcast, which provides weekly analysis of major cardiology studies and news.
