Dr Eugene Kotlyar is a Senior Staff Cardiologist in Heart Failure, Cardiac transplantation and Pulmonary hypertension at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney and a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales and Notre Dame. He is a general cardiologist in private practice at St Vincent’s clinic and St Vincent’s Private Hospital. In addition, he is an immediate past president and founding member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Society of Australia and New Zealand. He completed his undergraduate degree in medicine at the University of Sydney. He had undergone basic physician training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He subsequently undertook advanced training in cardiology in St Vincent’s Hospital and then enrolled in a combined clinical and research cardiomyopathy fellowship in Boston University. Based on the work performed in Boston, he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree on the role of aldosterone in cardiac remodelling in 2007. He completed a Masters degree in Pulmonary Vascular Diseases at the University of Bologna with Professor Nazzareno Galie in 2009 and a Sabbatical in Paris with Dr Olivier Sitbon in 2011. He has over 100 peer reviewed publications published in leading scientific, cardiac and respiratory journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC), CHEST and Journal of Heart Lung Transplantation and Chest. His current interests are the role of Exercise Right Heart Catheterisation in diagnosis and management of patients with Heart Failure, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and Chronic Thrombo-embolic Pulmonary Hypertension.

Edmund Lau is a respiratory physician working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. He is the lead Respiratory Physician of the Pulmonary Hypertension Service at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He was previously a post-doctoral research fellow at the French National Referral Centre for Severe Pulmonary Hypertension. He is the Medical Director of the Australian and New Zealand Pulmonary Hypertension Registry. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications on the topic of pulmonary hypertension.

DR DAVID BOSHELL, MBBS (UNSW) FRANZCR Dr. Boshell is a vascular and interventional radiologist at Sydney Adventist Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospitals, and a member of Sydney Interventional Radiology. Special interests include interventional oncology therapy, endovascular treatment of peripheral vascular disease, venous thromboembolism, pulmonary vascular disease, dialysis fistula maintenance, thrombolysis, embolisation therapy and percutaneous tumour ablation.

David Jenkins is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, UK. He graduated from medical school at the University of London in 1989, with a first class intercalated BSc in Physiology, and trained in surgery in London. Following a 2-year formal research period investigating ischaemic preconditioning and myocardial protection at the Hatter Institute at University College London, Mr Jenkins was awarded Master of Surgery from London University in 1997. He undertook his cardiothoracic surgical training in West London at Harefield, Hammersmith and St George’s hospitals, and was appointed as Consultant at Papworth Hospital in 2001. Mr Jenkins has experience in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery. Specialist experience includes surgical treatment of pulmonary hypertension, heart and lung transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). In 2004, he became director of the UK national pulmonary endarterectomy programme (PEA) for the treatment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). He is an executive board member of the International CTEPH Association. He is a member of the scientific board of the World Symposium Pulmonary Hypertension Association. He served as divisional director for surgery and transplantation at Royal Papworth hospital from 2016-2026. His research interests are related to myocardial protection, pulmonary hypertension and PEA surgery. He is a member of Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in GB&I, European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Association of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr Sonia Sawant is a Cardiology Advanced Trainee at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales. She holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Sydney and a Master of Public Health from Imperial College London. Her research focuses on cardiovascular outcomes, public health and advanced heart failure.

Associate Professor Chris Merry completed his undergraduate degree at Melbourne University and underwent postgraduate training at St Vincent’s Hospital, The Alfred and Austin Hospital. He undertook an aortic surgery fellowship at the Austin Hospital and has worked as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon since 2008. In 2010, after 3 years as a consultant in Melbourne he took up a position at Royal Perth and then Fiona Stanley Hospital in Western Australia, as the clinical lead for lung cancer surgery and as a cardiothoracic transplant surgeon. He returned to The Alfred in 2022 as Deputy Director of Cardiothoracic and Transplant surgery. His special interests include all aspects of heart and lung transplantation and mechanical device insertion He has an interest in lung cancer surgery, particularly minimally invasive and robotic lung resection, mitral valve repair, arterial coronary revascularisation, and aortic procedures. He holds an Associate Professorship at Notre Dame University, Fremantle and teaches and examines medical students at Monash Hospital. He is also on the Board of Cardiothoracic surgery and is an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
