Alex is an Aboriginal clinician/researcher who has worked his entire career in Aboriginal health in the provision of public health services, chronic disease care, health care policy and research. His transdisciplinary program of research focuses on documenting the burden and contributors to health inequality in Indigenous Australians, with a primary focus on cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes and cancer. In 2022 he took up a new position as Professor of Indigenous Genomics for The Kids Research Institute and ANU.

Dr Joseph Assad is an early-career clinician-researcher and PhD candidate. focused on digital health and remote monitoring in heart failure. His research centres on multiparameter device-based monitoring and patient-facing mHealth strategies to improve early detection of decompensation and reduce heart failure hospitalisations. He is the Principal Investigator of the NOTIFY-HF randomized pilot trial evaluating patient-directed HeartLogic alerts. Clinically, he has a strong interest in cardiac implantable electronic devices and heart failure management

Sophie is a PhD student in A/Prof Jodie Ingles lab at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of New South Whales. She is the chair of the Sarcomeric Human Cardiomyopathy Registry genetics committee. Her research focuses on understanding the genetic architecture of cardiomyopathies, through variant and gene-disease relationships to inform evidence based genetic testing.

Dr Joshua Wong is a cardiologist and PhD research fellow in cardio-oncology and cardiac imaging at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute through the University of Melbourne, supervised by Professor Tom Marwick. He graduated from Monash University in 2014 and completed physician and cardiology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, attaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2023. His PhD, entitled Detection and Control of Heart Failure Risk in Cancer Survivors, is supported by an NHMRC Postgraduate Research Scholarship and a Bright Sparks Scholarship. He subsequently completed subspecialty training with a non-invasive cardiac imaging fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and, in 2026, was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to undertake cardio-oncology training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Dr Wong holds public appointments at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital. His work focuses on improving cardiovascular outcomes for cancer survivors.

Dr Lund is the Head of Department of Cardiology at Counties Manukau District. She became a cardiologist because she “likes fixing things” and completed her training at Greenlane Hospital followed by fellowships at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Her professional mission is “To provide world class cardiology care to a population who too often have no choice where they receive treatment”. Dr Lund specialises in community heart failure care. She was the first woman to Chair the New Zealand Committee of CSANZ, is a past Clinical Lead of the Northern Region Clinical Cardiology Network, and is the current President of CSANZ.
