Implementing video-led support for rare cardiac procedures: Impacts on anxiety, clinical reasoning and practice

9:00 AM - 9:10 AM

Biography

Jackie Colgan has over 20 years of experience in acute cardiology nursing, serving as a Clinical Nurse Consultant at Central Coast Local Health District. She currently works in Digital Health, supporting the SDPR rollout. Originally trained in the UK, her MPhil research focused on using videos to assist nurses with rare procedures. Her project involved codesigning video procedures to support healthcare professionals during infrequent cardiac procedures, funded by an NSW Nursing and Midwifery Office Innovation Scholarship and a Caring for the Coast research grant. She published a scoping review highlighting the effectiveness and acceptance of these videos, which are viewed as valuable supplements to written procedures. The study results indicate that rare procedures can cause anxiety for nurses and that self-reported clinical reasoning improves with the use of videos.
