Ben Shaw is a fourth-year medical student at Monash University and a clinical placement student at The Alfred Hospital and Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne, with clinical interests in interventional and acute medicine. He has experience in large-database research, involved in projects alongside the Alfred Cardiology Department that investigate gender differences in heart failure outcomes and trends in venous thromboembolism, with particular focus on pre-hospital presentation and emergency services management. Ben combines this population-level research with laboratory-based investigation into cardiac disease at the Baker Institute. He is also passionate about peer mentoring and medical education at Monash University.

Associate Professor Bing Wang is the Head of Biomarker Discovery Laboratory at Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, and is responsible for the development of biomarker analytical assays and the discovery program. He has expertise in molecular and cellular biology, biomarker discovery and cardiac pharmacology. He has made significant contributions to academic research in the areas of cardiovascular pharmacology, drug discovery and development, cardiorenal syndrome research, identification of novel therapeutic targets for drug development, biomarker discovery and analysis, which is well-recognised. In particular, his research in the mechanistic study of cardiovascular diseases, drug development and cardiorenal syndrome over the last few years has produced many high-impact results and publications. In addition, he also supervises staff and students in the area of his expertise with excellent outcomes.

Dr Edmond Wong is a first year electrophysiology fellow at Austin Health in Melbourne. He has an interest in atrial cardiomyopathy and preclinical atrial fibrillation

Dr Jennifer Zhou is a Cardiology Fellow and PhD candidate at Monash University and The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. Her research focuses on aortic stenosis and heart failure, encompassing large-scale registry analyses, invasive haemodynamic and mechanistic studies, clinical trials, and health economic evaluation of cardiovascular care pathways.

Dr Louise Segan is a Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at the Alfred Hospital and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. Dr Segan completed her PhD in 2025, which centred on optimising outcomes for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) with a particular focus on heart failure. Dr Segan led the CAMERA-MRI II and WITHDRAW-AF randomized studies during her PhD tenure.

Dr Jordan Thorpe is a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Sydney. He received his PhD from the University of Nottingham (UK) in 2020, bringing specialized expertise in stem cell biology, biomaterials, and cardiac biology to Australia. At the VCCRI, Dr Thorpe’s research focuses on developing stem cell-derived engineered atrial cardiac tissues and 3D cardiac patches. His primary areas of interest include investigating the role of inflammation, sympathetic overactivation, and obesity in the development of atrial fibrillation and studying cardiac-immune interactions.

Xiaoyi Wang is a PhD candidate in Public Health, specialising in cardiac electrophysiology and medical data science. Based at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), Xiaoyi’s doctoral research focuses on the intersection of clinical cardiology and advanced computational modelling. Her current work involves the analysis of intracardiac electroanatomical data, specifically investigating signal attenuation and field of view in unipolar, bipolar, and omnipolar electrode configurations. With a strong background in machine learning and statistical programming, Xiaoyi aims to improve the precision of atrial fibrillation prognosis and mapping. Her research seeks to bridge the gap between signal processing and clinical outcomes in catheter ablation procedures.

Eddy is an resident medical officer currently working at the Royal Brisbane and Women's hospital. He has an interest in physician training and in particular, cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. Current areas of research include the relationship between atrial fibrillation and myocardial infarction, with current works examining the underlying drivers, predictors, and prognostic implications of AF in MI. His future research will aim to look at means of predicting new-onset AF in MI, as well as the potential applications of machine learning in this space. He is looking to commence a Master of Philosophy at the University of Queensland with this topic as the primary subject of his thesis.

A/Prof Chan is a Senior Staff Specialist and Director of Electrophysiology at Royal Prince Alfred hospital and affiliated with the University of Sydney.

Professor Andrew Sindone has been involved in cardiac research, teaching and improving the lives of those living with cardiovascular disease for almost thirty years. He set up and continues to run the Heart Failure Unit at Concord Hospital with the Heart Failure Clinic, research, rehabilitation and outreach programs. He is involved in teaching medical students, junior doctors, General Practitioners and specialists, and ran a program to update specialists in the management of heart failure over a ten year period. Professor Sindone has received multiple awards and has been Principal Investigator in over 57 international multicentre clinical trials, has presented over 130 research papers and continues to publish in cardiovascular disease. He is a Co-chairman of the NSW Cardiovascular Expert Reference Group, member of the Heart Foundation of Australia, was on the Scientific Committee for the World Congress of Cardiology in 2002 and is co-author of the Australian, Asia-Pacific and Global Guidelines for the Management of Heart Failure. He is patron of multiple charities and assists the Italian Community in education and support of those with heart disease.
