Roxana Mehran, MD, FACC, is an internationally renowned interventional cardiologist, clinical research expert, and trialist in the field of cardiovascular disease. She is among the most prolific researchers in the United States and is a globally respected leader of an academic research center focused on designing and implementing randomized clinical trials, outcomes research projects, and high-impact academic publications. She has focused on personalized medicine and developed individual risk scores for bleeding and acute kidney injury, and she regularly contributes to the development of clinical guidelines. With over 3,000 publications, she has been listed by Clarivate Analytics among the Most Cited Researchers – Top 1% and The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds (Thomson Reuters) for the past ten consecutive years, ranking among the top 50 researchers worldwide. Dr. Mehran currently serves as President (2026–2027) of the American College of Cardiology and leads The Lancet Commission on Women’s Cardiovascular Diseases, which aims to bridge gaps in scientific discovery, clinical trials, and care for women with cardiovascular disease. She is Director of the Women’s Heart and Vascular Center at Mount Sinai Heart, spearheading a program designed to meet the unique needs of women’s cardiovascular health. She also founded Women as One, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing opportunities for women in medicine. Dr. Mehran is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Ellis Island Medal of Honor; the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Silver Medal; the ESC Andreas Grüntzig Lecture Plaque; the Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award; the CRF Pulse-Setter Champion Award; the Jacobi Medallion from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; and, most recently, the ESC Gold Medal (2025) and the AHA Laennec Master Clinician Award (2025).

Dr Naomi Wattchow is a Cardiology Fellow undertaking a PhD in serial photon-counting CCTA and novel biomarkers to investigate the natural history of atherosclerosis. In 2027 Naomi will be the recipient of the ANZET/CSANZ Coronary Interventional fellowship in Leeds UK.

Dr Katharine Bate completed her cardiology training and her PhD on novel cardiac biomarkers in 2023, and is now undertaking subspecialty training in electrophysiology. She is currently doing post-doctural research at the University of Sydney and working as a clinical cardiologist at Sydney Adventist and Northern Beaches Hospitals.

Dr John Mandrola is a cardiac electrophysiologist based at Baptist Health in Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to his clinical work, he is widely recognised as a leading voice in contemporary cardiology through his writing, podcasting and public engagement. Dr Mandrola is known for his clear, patient-focused commentary on cardiovascular care, evidence-based medicine and the responsible use of medical technology. Dr Mandrola earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed his postgraduate medical training at Indiana University, where he distinguished himself academically and clinically, receiving the Outstanding Fellow Award. His training laid the foundation for a career focused on cardiac electrophysiology and arrhythmia management. Dr Mandrola practices as a cardiac electrophysiologist at Baptist Health in Louisville, Kentucky, where his clinical work focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Beyond his clinical role, Dr Mandrola has become a prominent figure in medical journalism and digital education. He writes a regular and widely read column for theHeart.org, where he addresses developments in cardiology, clinical trial interpretation and healthcare policy. He is also the host of the highly regarded “This Week in Cardiology” podcast, which provides weekly analysis of major cardiology studies and news. Dr Mandrola additionally contributes to Sensible Medicine, a platform dedicated to thoughtful discussion of medical evidence and clinical decision-making. His work as a communicator has earned him a broad international following among clinicians and patients alike. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, reflecting his professional standing and ongoing contributions to the field of cardiology. Dr Mandrola is recognised for his contributions to cardiac electrophysiology as well as for his influential role in cardiology communication and education. His writing and podcasting have helped shape discussions around evidence-based practice, patient-centred care and the thoughtful adoption of new technologies in cardiovascular medicine.

Professor Jeanette Schulz-Menger is a cardiologist specializing in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR), with experience in the field since 1996. She holds a University Professorship in Cardiology (“Noninvasive Imaging with a focus on CMR”) and leads one of Europe’s few high-throughput CMR centers. This includes a dedicated clinical CMR scanner at Helios Clinic Berlin as well as advanced research infrastructure, including 3T and 7T systems, at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. She has established the HELIOS-CMR network across Germany, enabling high-quality CMR in hospitals of varying sizes. In parallel, she has strengthened academic CMR by building a research network that connects CMR activities across all Charité campuses. Her group has developed a dedicated research outpatient clinic focusing on cardiomyopathies, inflammatory, and rare diseases, thereby bridging clinical care with translational imaging research. This work is closely linked to the research environment at the Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC) at Charité. Professor Schulz-Menger is deeply committed to CMR education and has founded a structured training program. She has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and reviews. She also served as Co-Lead Author of the recently published ESC Guidelines on Myocarditis and Pericarditis. Originally from Berlin, she combines her professional passion for CMR with personal interests in theatre, literature, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr Jonathan Ciofani is a cardiology registrar and researcher at Royal North Shore Hospital with clinical interests in interventional cardiology, structural heart disease and genomics. He holds a Master of Public Health from Imperial College London, and a Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Medical Science from The University of Sydney. Jonathan currently Chairs the CSANZ Fellows in Training Committee, is member of the CSANZ Education Committee, and is Section Editor for Genomics and Precision Medicine at Heart, Lung and Circulation.
