Dr Ron Blankstein
Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard University
CT guided coronary intervention
1:30 PM - 1:45 PMBiography
Dr. Ron Blankstein is the Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Program, Director of Cardiac Computed Tomography, and a preventative cardiology specialist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). In addition, he is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS).
Dr. Blankstein is the immediate Past-President of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Preventive Cardiology. He received his medical degree from Rush Medical College. He completed an internal medicine residency and a cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dr. Blankstein then completed an advanced fellowship in cardiac imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is certified in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, and cardiovascular computed tomography.
His clinical interests focus on methods to identify and treat early stages of coronary heart disease, prevention of cardiovascular disease, and diagnosis and treatment of cardiac sarcoidosis. Dr. Blankstein is an expert in the use of multi-modality imaging for the assessment of cardiovascular disease. This includes acquiring and interpreting non-invasive cardiovascular imaging tests—such as cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, nuclear cardiology, and exercise treadmill testing. The author of over 400 publications, Dr. Blankstein’s research compares the results of different imaging techniques as well as the impact of these tests on the patient management and outcomes. Dr. Blankstein frequently lectures on topics ranging from preventive cardiology and risk assessment to how to use the results of cardiovascular imaging in patient management decisions.
Prof Victoria Delgado
Head, Cardiovascular Imaging Department
University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol
Future of cardiovascular imaging: What does the future imager look like?
1:45 PM - 2:00 PMBiography
Dr Victoria Delgado is currently the head of the cardiovascular imaging department of the Heart Institute at the University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol in Badalona, Spain. She graduated from medical school at the University of Barcelona (Spain), completed her PhD at Leiden University.
She is currently President of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging of the European Society of Cardiology. She is also president of the Scientific Commission Sciences de la Vie et de la Santé - 4 (SVS-4) of the F.R.S.-FNRS (Belgium) and has formed part of several grant selection panels. She has been Senior Editor of Circulation and Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography.
Prof John Greenwood
Director
Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute
Cardiac MRI - beyond standard indications
2:00 PM - 2:15 PMBiography
Professor John Greenwood is the Director of the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, Melbourne, Australia and Adjunct/Visiting Professor at Melbourne University, Monash University, and also the University of Leeds, UK. As a consultant cardiologist for 20 years, he has specialised in coronary intervention and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging.
Professor Greenwood underwent his clinical and academic training in Leeds, UK, and in addition underwent specialist training in coronary intervention in Toulouse, France and Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London.
His main focus of research has been the diagnosis and treatment of stable and unstable coronary artery disease. In terms of diagnostics, this particularly involved the use of CMR in terms of pulse sequence development and validation through large scale clinical trials. In terms of therapeutics, he has collaborated on a number of major multi-centre clinical trials designed to improve outcomes in patients undergoing primary PCI for acute ST elevation myocardial infarction or stable complex coronary artery disease. In particular, early phase clinical trials of drugs and devices to reduce infarct size in the setting of acute myocardial infarction.
He is the immediate Past-President of the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS; 2021-2024) and a member of Council of The Royal College of Physicians, London. He was elected to the Board of BSCMR (British Society of Cardiovascular MR) in 2008, and became BSCMR President (2018-2020). He is past-Chair of the SCMR clinical trials committee (2015-2017) and member of the SCMR scientific programme committee (2016-2019). He was the SCMR representative on the 2021 AHA/ACC/ASE/CHEST/SAEM/SCCT/SCMR Guideline for the Evaluation and Diagnosis of Chest Pain.
He was a winner of the SCMR Gold Medal in 2023 and Associate Editor of JCMR (2017-2023). He is a member of the ESC Cardio-policy group (2022-2024), ESC Advocacy Committee (2021-current) and a past member of the Assembly of International Governors of the ACC (2021-2024).
He has supervised/co-supervised to completion ~30 MD/PhD students and has >400 peer-reviewed publications, including many in NEJM, Lancet, JAMA, Circulation, JACC and EHJ.
