Coen Arrow has a background in Engineering and Medical Physics. His holds a BEng (Mechatronic), BSc (Physics, and Mathematics and Statistics), and a MSc (Medical Physics) all from the University of Western Australia (UWA), where he also undertook doctoral research with a focus on non-invasive cardiac imaging. His multidisciplinary background equips him with a unique skill set at the intersection of technology and healthcare. Coen’s research interests centre on the practical application of cutting-edge technologies and facilitating their translation into clinical practice. He advocates for interpretable AI in medical imaging — built with the transparency and safeguards needed for clinicians to trust and act on its outputs.

Biography

Dr Md Moniruzzaman is a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at Edith Cowan University and an artificial intelligence researcher working at the intersection of engineering and cardiovascular medicine. He completed his PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Edith Cowan University and previously held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Curtin University in collaboration with the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. His research focuses on image and signal processing, and machine learning methods for healthcare applications, particularly AI-enabled cardiovascular diagnostics using heart sounds, imaging, and physiological signals. His work has been supported by competitive grants including the WA Health Innovation Fellowship and the Department of Health Generative AI Innovation Challenge. He actively supervises higher degree research students and contributes to international research collaborations in AI-driven medical technology.

Biography

Carson Wong is a graduate from the University of Sydney's Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) and has both musculoskeletal and occupational health experience. He has recently become invested in cardiovascular health as well as the current public systems and emerging initiatives regarding AI-coached self-management of heart failure. This newfound appreciation for the cardiovascular sector was facilitated by his recently started relationship with a PhD student by the name of Carina Choy at the Westmead Applied Research Centre within the esteemed University of Sydney. Carson hopes to bring an independent and fresh perspective as a non-cardiovascular sector clinician with his vast experience in community and private health care, where he has observed many undiagnosed and suffering patients who would benefit from improved support with the advent of Artificial Intelligence and its role in revitalising the cardiovascular sector.

Biography

A/Prof Mayooran Namasivayam is a Staff Specialist Cardiologist, Associate Director of Echocardiography and Interventional Echocardiography Specialist at the St Vincent’s Hospital Campus, Sydney, Conjoint Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, UNSW, Sydney and Faculty member of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. Clinically, A/Prof Namasivayam manages patients across the spectrum of cardiovascular disease including valvular heart diseases, systolic and diastolic heart failure, cardiomyopathy and hypertension, and performs cardiac procedural imaging planning and guidance. A/Prof Namasivayam graduated medical school from the University of New South Wales with First Class Honours and subsequently completed specialist cardiology training at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. He completed a PhD in cardiovascular physiology at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, St Vincent’s Hospital and UNSW. Following this, he spent two years in Boston where he completed a Clinical and Research Fellowship in Advanced Echocardiography at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University. As Head of the Heart Valve Disease and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, A/Prof Namasivayam leads research into heart valve diseases combining his expertise in cardiovascular physiology, cardiac imaging and artificial intelligence analytics.
