Dr Mahdid Azam is an Critical Care House Officer at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and an Associate Lecturer at The University of Queensland. He holds an MD and Bachelor of Medical Science from the University of Newcastle. His interests include critical care, cardiac medicine and peri-operative medicine.

Dr Amanda Croft has recently completed her PhD at the University of Newcastle and the Newcastle Cardio-oncology Centre of Excellence. Her PhD focused on the contribution of adipose tissue to metabolic dysfunction, cardiovascular disease and cancer, and sex differences in metabolic heart disease in preclinical models. Her current areas of interest include novel biomarkers of CVD, mitigation of chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, and the role of adipose tissue in cardio-oncology.

Professor Carmine De Pasquale is a Heart Failure Cardiologist at Flinders Medical Centre and a Senior Lecturer at Flinders University. He was awarded a PhD in 2003 for research examining the effects of heart failure on pulmonary physiology, before undertaking a Clinical Fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. Professor De Pasquale has recognised expertise in heart failure and echocardiography, with ongoing research interests spanning translational laboratory science and clinical therapeutics in heart failure. He has served as President of the CSANZ Heart Failure Council, chaired the South Australian Heart Failure Network Working Group, contributed to national heart failure guidelines since 2006, and is an Editorial Board member of Cardiac Failure Review.

I’m a PhD student in the Cardiovascular Endocrinology laboratory at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. This project focuses on the regulatory role of the mineralocorticoid receptor in macrophage inflammatory response, aiming to improve the current mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist therapy for treating heart failure.

Dr Yasith Kamaladasa completed his undergraduate medical training from Western Sydney University followed by a Master of Medicine Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney. He completed the entireity of his training including medical redsidency, physician training and speciality Cardiology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and is currenlty completing his PhD in heart failure at the University of Sydney. Yasith is a general clinical Cardiologist with an interests in preventative and structural heart disease

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney’s Westmead Applied Research Centre, where my work examines how dietary patterns influence the development and progression of heart failure. My research portfolio includes a narrative review on dietary management in heart failure and a systematic review and meta‑analysis investigating the effects of ketone supplementation, ketogenic diets, and low‑carbohydrate diets on heart failure outcomes. As part of my doctoral program, I am also conducting a clinical trial evaluating a ketogenic dietary intervention in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Alongside my research, I hold a Master of Teaching and have nearly two decades of experience teaching at both secondary and tertiary levels. I have taught Chemistry and Mathematics at Meriden School, Sydney Grammar School, and St Aloysius’ College.

Dr Georgia Lyras Musgrave is an intern at the Alfred Hospital with a keen interest in cardiology and public health.

Dr. Anna Ne is a medical doctor based in Sydney, Australia. She has a keen interest in cardiovascular clinical care and research. She has successfully completed Basic Physician Training and is currently a final year PhD student at The University of Sydney.

Yann Huey Ng is a postdoctoral researcher currently working in the Cardiometabolic Medicine Laboratory at the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney in Australia. Her research centres on advancing the understanding of cardiometabolic diseases, with a focus on the pathophysiology of heart failure. She is interested in uncovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive cardiac dysfunction and disease progression. Yann’s work emphasizes the interrogation of cardiac and mitochondrial function, as well as the role of immunometabolism and inflammation in the development of heart failure. By integrating mechanistic studies with translational approaches, she aims to identify novel therapeutic targets that may improve treatment strategies and patient outcomes.

Gejun Niu is a PhD student in Monash University and Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute. His research focuses on developing novel anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory therapies for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. By establishing and utilising clinically relevant animal models of HFpEF to study its pathophysiology, identify novel biomarkers, and explore potential therapeutic interventions.

Samuel is a second year basic phyisican trainee at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in Sydney in 2022 and has an interest in the management of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

Dr Samuel Kim is a Cardiology Advanced Trainee at Wollongong Hospital. He has a growing interest in Interventional and Structural Cardiology and is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and junior doctors.
